Chapter 60: The Truth

Everleigh's POV

'You shouldn't have forced him to sign the divorce papers. For crying out loud, you are pregnant," Maya said. I was seated on the bed, my back relaxed against the headboard while Lindsay consoled me.

'She's right, my queen. Because of the divorce, your skin is no longer glowing. I hate to see you like this," Lindsay said, chewing bubble gum as usual.

'It was the hardest decision of my life, but I couldn't hold onto him anymore. If nine years couldn't make him love me, then he will never be mine," I sobbed. 'His heart belongs to Scarlett even after all these years."

'What are you going to do about the baby now? You know the baby needs his or her father, right? Besides, it's going to be hard labor for you," Maya said, joining us on the bed. 'How do you imagine your life as a single mother, Ever?"

'I will find a way," I said, wiping my tears. 'I have hurt Scarlett enough already; it's time for me to pay for my mistakes."

'You don't have to worry, my queen. We are here for you; you will glow again," Lindsay said, making me smile sadly.

'Must everything be about makeup?" Maya snapped. 'Why can't you talk without mentioning anything to do with beauty and skincare?"

'Have you forgotten how long I've been in the makeup industry?" Lindsay retorted. 'I don't talk without selling myself out; that's what makeup is all about. Besides, you seem to have forgotten I'm responsible for that beautiful face of yours."

'I am a natural beauty."

'Says a makeup freak."

'Enough, guys. Must you fight?" I chimed in. They always have a way of lifting my spirits.

'He started it."

'Point of correction, baby girl. It's a she," Lindsay said, swinging her hand.

'You're deluded; we don't need you in our gender," Maya spat.

'What are you going to do about it? I'm already in," Lindsay shot back.

'You know what? You two are the best people in the world. You've succeeded in making me forget my problems," I said.

'Aww! You are going to make me cry. Oh dear, my makeup," Lindsay said, dabbing her eyes as if cleaning off tears. Maya scoffed. I pulled both of them in for a hug.

Later that night, I received a video call from Nathan. His expression was down, but he tried to smile at me.

'What's wrong? Did you fight with Scarlett again?" I asked, picking up my makeup wipe to remove my makeup.

'Not really. She's just pissing me off with that bodyguard of hers," he said, rubbing his eyes.

'She got another bodyguard?" I asked.

'The dead one is alive. I wonder how he managed to survive after being confirmed dead."

'Did you kill him?" I tilted my head.

'What sort of question is that? How could I have killed him?"

'Because you seem to be angry that he is alive. If you want Scarlett, then fight to win her back, not blame someone else for your misfortune," I said, tossing the makeup wipe in the trash.

He sighed. 'She's making it hard for me. I don't want him near her."

'You can't do anything about it," I said bluntly.

'Enough about Scarlett. How are you doing? Did you feel any pain again?"

'A little, but I'm fine."

He tilted his head, staring at me. 'Did you cry?" he asked, and I shook my head. 'I know you did. It must really be hard for you."

I chuckled. 'There was no other option, Nathan. Once I give birth, everything will be fine. I will give you your child and go fix my life."

'I don't understand. How do you mean?"

'I have a plan. Once the baby is old enough, I will transfer it to you. You can get a nanny or anyone to take care of it."

'First of all, our child is not an ‘it.' Secondly, why do you sound like you never wanted the baby?"

'Truth or lie?"

'Truth, of course."

'I don't want this child; I can't take care of him when he's born. You love children, Nate. You take care of him."

'You don't sound like a mother," he said, shaking his head in disappointment.

'My tone doesn't matter. I want to go back to modeling. I want to erase all the memories of you. I know it's going to be the toughest moment of my life, but I'm ready to embrace it. I don't want anything that would remind me of my mistake with you, including this child. I want to shut you out of my life forever," I poured out, tears streaming down my face. Before he could condemn me, I hung up, burying my face in my palms.

After crying for a while, I felt thirsty and headed out of my room to get some water. Passing by my dad's room, I heard his voice. He was making a call.

'That was a wonderful job, Jaguar. I'm sure Nathan will hold Scarlett responsible," he said. My eyes widened in shock. I stepped closer to the door, pressing my ear against it. 'I will call you when I need your services again."

'What did you do, Dad?" I mumbled, slamming the door and startling him.

'Uh… what did you hear?" he asked nonchalantly, sitting on the bed.

'What is Nathan holding Scarlett responsible for?"

'Go back to bed, sweetheart. I can't let you in on anything," he said, lying down on the bed.

'I need to know everything, Dad!" I groaned. 'What did you do?"

My father never lies to me, so it was hard for him to do it this time.

'Fine, if you insist," he sat up. 'I was responsible for the explosion of Reyes Legacy Jewels," he said, and I gasped.

'You did what? Why?"

'I was angry, sweetheart. I watched you cry yourself to sleep every night because of Nathan and Scarlett. It was the worst sight for me, so I needed to teach them both a lesson," he began. 'Scarlett had called Jaguar, who happens to work for me too. She asked him to burn down Reyes Legacy Jewels. Jaguar told me about it, and I told him to go ahead, but then he called back and said Scarlett changed her mind and wouldn't proceed with the plan anymore, so…"

'So, you gave him a new job to burn down Nathan's company, which led to the death of Scarlett's child. How evil can you be, Father?" I cried, tears streaming down my cheeks. My dad has never done something so outrageous before. 'You murdered an innocent child."

'I never knew she was going to be there. Besides, I did it for you. I needed to take revenge on your behalf."

'Don't ever say that to me! Don't say you do evil because of me. You know how much I love Nathan, yet you tried to make him suffer. What if he had died in the explosion? Do you think I would be happy forever? You are so evil, Father!" I confronted him, running out of the room. My father was my idol; how could he stain his hands with the blood of an innocent child?
