As Dr. Grey walked me out, his voice was warm with gratitude: "Ivy, thank you for stepping in. If you ever need anything—anything at all—I'm just across the street."
I smiled and nodded, oddly reluctant to leave.
When Sebastian called asking me to return to the Association, I finally agreed. But when I arrived, I found Sophia sitting at my desk.
"I'm so sorry, Miss Ivy," she stammered, flushing when she saw me. "The supervisor said I could use your computer temporarily. I'll move right away..."
She scrambled to gather her papers, nearly tripping as she turned to reach for a folder.
Sebastian appeared in the doorway and caught her arm with practiced ease—a gesture so natural it spoke of long familiarity.

"I'm fine, thank you," Sophia murmured, blushing. "Just nervous."
I observed silently, keeping my face carefully neutral.
"We've made some staffing changes," the supervisor explained as he passed. "Sophia's now handling Weber's business reviews."
"I see," I said lightly. "How have you been, Sophia? I heard you visited the animal clinic recently?"
Sophia froze momentarily, her shoulders tensing.
"How's that kitten doing? Such a sweet little thing—I hope you're taking good care of it?" I pressed.
"I—I have a meeting," Sophia stammered, practically fleeing the room.
Sebastian frowned at me. "Go with her. She's still getting comfortable here."
I turned on my heel and walked out.
