"So you're Dr. Grey's girlfriend?" a pet owner asked curiously that afternoon while Mia was training me before her departure.
"No, I'm married," I corrected her. "Just helping out temporarily."
Dr. Grey emerged from the exam room, overheard our exchange, and promptly retreated.
Later, an emergency case arrived—a Border Collie hit by a car, bleeding heavily and barely conscious.
"Ivy, I need saline and hemostatic forceps," Dr. Grey called out, his voice calm but urgent as he worked.
I moved quickly, following his instructions despite my lack of training. When the dog finally stabilized, the tearful owner clasped our hands, thanking us over and over.
"You were excellent in there," Dr. Grey told me afterward. "Ever considered a career in medicine?"
"I think you're the perfect candidate," I replied honestly, then realized how that sounded and quickly added, "For a medical career, I mean."
He laughed softly as I hurried back to the reception desk, my cheeks burning.
While lost in thought at the front desk, I glanced out the window and spotted a familiar black sedan pulling up outside.
Sebastian's car.
My blood turned to ice.
