"Ivy?" A familiar voice pulled me from my reverie.
Dr. Ethan Grey approached, walking a large, friendly-looking golden retriever.
"Good evening, Dr. Grey," I said, mustering a smile. "Is this handsome fellow yours?"
"No, this is Big Bear—he belongs to my receptionist, Mia," he explained. "She's taking some time off, so I'm dog-sitting. To be honest, I could use some help."
Oro perked up instantly, giving me a meaningful look.
"You need help?" I asked.
"The reception work isn't difficult, but it's too much for one person. Booking appointments, answering calls, filing records... Mia needs at least a week off."
"I can help," I blurted out, surprising myself.
Dr. Grey blinked. "You? Don't you have your own job?"
"I... have some unexpected free time," I said. "I'll help for free—consider it a learning opportunity." I couldn't explain my situation with the Association, and Hunter business wasn't for civilian ears anyway.
"For free?" He pushed his glasses up his nose. "That hardly seems appropriate..."
"Please," I insisted. "I need the distraction."
Dr. Grey studied me for a moment, seeming to debate saying more, but finally nodded. "Well... alright, if you're certain. We open at eight tomorrow morning."
After saying goodbye to Dr. Grey, I turned to Oro. "You planned this too, didn't you?"
"Not at all," Oro replied. "Just a fortunate coincidence."
