Chapter 23: Aldrich's Warning

502words
"The Dark Moon Stone has been activated." Aldrich's voice echoed in the cave, "I can feel its dark energy disrupting the balance of the Moon Laurel."

Lyra and Rayne sat across from the old man, their expressions solemn. Lyra described her nightmare from last night, as well as the memory confusion she had experienced.

"This is just the beginning," Aldrich warned, "As the full moon approaches, the power of the Dark Moon Stone will grow stronger. By the day of the trial, it will reach its peak."

"Is there any way to resist it?" Rayne asked urgently.

The old man retrieved an ancient wooden box from the corner, opening it to reveal two silver pendants: "Moon Laurel Tears, legendary artifacts left behind by the first soul mates to receive the Moon Laurel's blessing. They can resist the Dark Moon Stone's interference to some extent."

Lyra took the pendant, feeling a warm energy: "This is the protection we need."

"But their power is limited," Aldrich said solemnly, "true victory must come from the soul connection between you two. Moon Laurel Tears can only help you stay conscious, they cannot fight for you."

Rayne placed the pendant around Lyra's neck, then put on his own: "We'll find a way."

Aldrich suddenly grabbed Lyra's hand, closing his eyes: "I see danger... not just from Karen and the Dark Moon Stone, but a deeper threat."

Lyra asked nervously: "What threat?"

The old man opened his eyes, worry flickering in them: "The price of rebirth. Each time fate is altered, it creates ripples. The universe seeks balance, and you, the reborn one, are the point of imbalance."

Lyra felt a chill: "What does that mean?"

"It means that even if you defeat Karen and Eileen, you still face an even greater challenge." Aldrich's voice grew deeper, "In the Moon Shadow Valley trial, you must not only fight against enemies but also persuade Laurel to accept your decision to change fate."

Rayne squeezed Lyra's hand: "We will face it together. Whatever the cost."

Aldrich nodded, taking out a piece of parchment from his robe: "This is a detailed map of the path to Laurel's core. Remember, only on the night of the full moon, when the light of the Silver Fern guides you, will this path reveal itself."

Lyra carefully put away the map: "Thank you, Aldrich."

The old man's gaze became profound: "Remember, Reborn One, fate has given you a second chance, not just to change the outcome, but to understand the true meaning of life. When the final moment comes, choose love, not hatred."

As she left the cave, Lyra touched the Moon Laurel Tears pendant around her neck, her heart filled with determination. No matter what awaited them ahead, this time, she would not let tragedy repeat itself.

Meanwhile, in the castle basement, Karen stared at the purple glow flickering on the Dark Moon Stone, a cold smile curling at the corner of her lips: "Can you feel it, Lyra? This is just the beginning."
