He led me around the car and helped me in before he got in himself. I had a huge grin on my face and couldn't wait to tell him all about the neverending good news I had tonight.
"Who was on the phone?" Drake asked as he backed out of his driveway.
"Micky," I stated as I noticed his grip on the steering wheel tightened. "Calm down, He-man," I joked. "He called to tell me that Conner got adopted this week."
Drake's demeanor changed instantly. "No shit? That's amazing news!"
I nodded. "And you'll never guess who adopted him..." When he didn't say anything, I blurted, "My sister Careen."
"Really? Oh, lynn, that's incredible! That kid deserves a new go at life and your sister seemed like a pretty great person." He reached over and grabbed my hand before he brought it to his lips and lightly kissed it.
"Have I told you that I loved you yet today?" I inquired with a grin on my face.
He chuckled. "Not yet."
"I will," I teased again.
He kissed my hand again as he laughed. Then he looked over at me and his gaze said it all. He was just as madly in love with me as I was with him.
We rode the rest of the way in blissful silence as I thought back to the last several weeks of my life. It was nothing but a whirlwind of events, but the storm landed me here and I couldn't be happier.
When we arrived, my heart began to pound and I didn't know why I was so nervous. I mean, I guess it could have to do with the fact that I didn't know much about this part of his life and had never experienced it before now. I had no clue what to even expect.
"Mr. Hudson!" The valet greeted us as we stepped out of the Audi.
The front sidewalk of the enormous Greek Revival style building was cram packed with people of all ethnicities. They were all dressed to the nines and they all had huge smiles on their faces. If I didn't know any better, I'd say we pulled up to the Oscars.
Drake tipped the young man before he slapped him on the back and then held out his arm for me to take.
"Why did he call you Mr. Hudson and not Mr. Hudsons?" I asked.
Drake laughed. "My stage name is Drake Hudson, lynn."
I snorted. It couldn't have been a more perfect porn name and even though I knew it, I didn't really put two and two together until just now. Good grief, lynn, get your shit together.
"Are you ready for this? Paparazzi are about to flood our faces in about ten seconds."
And he wasn't lying. Within seconds, we were bombarded by flashing cameras and people shouting questions at us.
"Who's your date, Drake?!"
"Are you expecting to take home the Golden Penis tonight?"
"Drake! Over here!"
I looked up and saw that Drake only grinned at them as he pushed through. He didn't answer a single one of their questions as we made our way up the front steps and finally inside away from the hectic noise.
My heart still thundered in my chest as I took in the surroundings. The place was absolutely stunning with floor to ceiling pillars and maroon carpet lining the walkways. Everyone in here looked like royalty and I somehow felt out of place.
"Drake!"
I looked over Drake's shoulder to find a strikingly gorgeous woman who was nearly naked in her choice of a dress. She only had eyes for him as she approached and leaned in to give him a kiss on each cheek.
"You look absolutely handsome, Dawson," she beamed as she ran her hand down his chest.
Anger spread in me like a wildfire and I wanted to tell her that it was Drake and not Dawson. Dumb bitch.
"Thank you, Trixie," Drake replied softly before he turned to me. "You haven't met my girlfriend yet."
Her eyes finally moved to me and the look of disgust on her face wasn't hidden at all. It was clear that she wanted to pretend like I didn't exist, but I wasn't going anywhere. And Trixie? Is she kidding?
I stuck out my hand and played nice. "Lynn. Nice to... meet you," I choked out.
Her gaze slid over me before she weakly shook my hand and then pulled her hand back as if I had leprosy.
"Kristoph told me that you were seeing someone, but I didn't believe him."
"Well, believe it. Have a nice night, Trixie," Drake stated as he pulled me away from her. The look of pure shock spread over her features as she watched us walk away. I don't think she was used to people blowing her off and I wanted to kiss Drake for doing so.
"Drake!" Two girls shrieked in unison as they approached us. They were equally barely dressed like Trixie as they cooed over my boyfriend.
"Girls, it's nice to see you again," Drake muttered before he turned the attention back onto me again. "Have you met my girlfriend yet?"
Their faces dropped as they looked over at me, but this time it wasn't disgust. No, they were staring at me like I was a mythical creature they'd never seen before. Drake had said that he had never dated anyone before, so this didn't surprise me.
"We need to find our seats, ladies. Have a nice evening." Drake pulled me away again as I snickered into his arm.
"You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
He laughed. "You have no idea."
We headed into the auditorium before anyone else could stop us, and found our seats. They were near the front and I wondered if it was so that he didn't have to walk far when he won an award. I didn't know that for sure, but if he fucked on camera as good as he fucked me, there was no way he wasn't winning at least one award tonight.
"This is amazing," I stated as I looked around at the beautiful auditorium.
