Chapter 118: Now a millionaire
1030words
There was a check at the bottom of the page addressed to my wrongful name of Martinez, but it wasn't my name that surprised me. No, the check was for almost two million dollars. I looked back over the last few paragraphs and finally saw what the check was for. Being a Tuffin by birth gave me shares in the company. This was a check for this year's market shares according to the letter.
I couldn't believe my eyes and as I turned to the next page, I saw a handwritten note from Mama Bell.
[My dearest lynn,
I know the money will never make up for the time we lost with you, but I sure hope this helps. Tuffin Aerospace will send you a check similar to this one every quarter. I have also enclosed the information from your parents' lawyer regarding your inheritance account that was saved through all of this. We hope to see you soon, dear Molly.
With love, Mama Bell]
I looked up at Luis and Dakota before I left my bedroom. I needed a moment to gather my thoughts alone, but as I stepped into the hallway, I looked over the other page and nearly passed out.
There was an account out there with just over ten million dollars in it and my name was on it. Tears blurred my vision as I stared at the sheet of paper. I grabbed my phone out and without hesitation, I brought Noah's number up and threw him a quick text telling him that I quit. This money would change everything and I couldn't wait to tell Drake about it.
"Lynn?" Luis asked as he stuck his head out into the hallway. "You okay?"
I patted just below my eyes so I didn't ruin my makeup before I turned and smiled at him.
"I'm more than okay, L. Are you two ready to finish dolling me up?" I folded the papers back up and stuck them beneath my arm before I went back into the bedroom.

As I made my way over to Drake's bedroom, my phone began to ring in my clutch. I stopped in the middle of the yard and quickly dug out my phone. Micky's name flashed on the screen and part of me didn't want to answer it in fear that his call might ruin our night, but I had to.
"Micky, hi!" I greeted.
"Hey! Do you have a minute?"
I stood in the middle of my yard in a dress that barely covered my goods and wondered if a neighbor was gawking, but who am I kidding? Drake had lived here for a while so I'm sure they're used to having a pornstar living across the street from them. Who knows the crazy stuff they've seen.
"Yeah, I've got a minute," I replied.
"Good, because I wanted to give you an update on Conner." My heart sank at the mention of my nephew but I stayed silent so Micky could continue. "Can you believe Melissa gave up her rights to him? She didn't even flinch when she signed the papers."
I gasped. "Are you kidding me? That poor baby."
"Yeah, I know, but he didn't seem all that upset, to be honest. Melissa doesn't even seem to mind that she's sitting behind bars for quite a while. She still blames you, but that's another story."
None of what Micky said surprised me one bit. Melissa was an evil bitch and she deserved everything she had coming for her. Maybe she knew it too, hence why she wasn't fighting, but I didn't believe that for a second either. Nothing was ever her fault and I wouldn't be surprised if she was planning a way out of this mess.
"So, what happens to Conner now?" I asked before I chewed on my bottom lip. If that sweet boy was still sitting in some child protective service building somewhere, I would do what was right and bring him here.
"Ha, you won't believe what I'm about to say next. Your, um, real sister Careen came by a few days ago and met with Conner. They had almost an instant connection. Careen mentioned that she wasn't able to have children. She adopted Conner, lynn."
I literally almost fell at his words. My knees shook and a ball of emotion wedged itself in my throat. A sob wanted to escape but I swallowed it back. My heart was so full. I may not know my real family all that well, but I knew family was everything to them. Conner couldn't have found a better family to adopt into and he would still be in mine.
"Oh, Micky, that's the best news ever," I finally choked out.
"I know! I, um," he cleared his throat, "I asked your sister out on a date. You're okay with that, right?"
I laughed. "Of course, Micky. Why wouldn't I be?" But then I remembered all the strife between him and Drake, and knew the answer to my question. He was finally moving on from me and that, in itself, was good news. "I hope you two have an amazing time, but I really do have to go now."
Drake had backed out of his garage in the Audi before he got out and stared over at me. Damn, he looked good in that perfectly fitting black suit and bright red tie. Micky was still on the line as I slowly pulled my phone away from my face, hung up, and made my way toward Drake like a moth to a flame.
His smirk got bigger the closer I got to him as he wrapped his arms around me.
"Damn, you look great, lynn."
I giggled. "Thank you. Whoever picked this dress out has impeccable taste," I teased.
He grinned down at me. "I know tonight might make you uncomfortable, but I can't begin to explain how happy I am that you're joining me."
