Chapter 7

350words
In my past life, Emily escaped from the countryside with her marriage license.
Too scared to face Mike, she blamed me for stealing her ID.
I had no evidence then, and they pushed me to my death.

This time, I need proof from the courthouse first.
The police noticed my condition and frowned.
"I'll go with you to the doctor. Let them go ahead; we'll follow."
Even then, Susan was suspicious.
She warned before leaving,
"If you let her go, I'll report you to your boss!"

The police scowled as John pulled her into the car.
After they left, my parents hugged me tightly.
We held each other for a long time.
Then Dad turned to the school officials, sweating.

"I spoke too soon—Lily can't withdraw! Wait for the police's findings—I know she's innocent!"
His eyes were red with exhaustion.
I understood—voluntary withdrawal was better than expulsion.
After that, my parents and the police took me to the campus clinic.
A crack sounded, and before the pain hit, my arm was fixed.
As we left, Mom saw the bloody scrapes on my wrists and ankles.
She stopped, slapping her head in regret.
"It's my fault—I didn't know you were hurt! I thought you were faking..."
I forced a smile. "It's okay. I'm sorry for making you come all this way."
For trusting the wrong friend, for being blind.
Mom begged the police, tears in her eyes.
"Look at her wounds—full of gravel! Can we disinfect them?"
The police checked his watch and sighed.
"Go ahead. They're probably there by now; we'll meet at the station."
My parents thanked him, and a nurse cleaned my wounds.
As time passed, I formed a plan.
At the station, we met them returning.
John was smoking on the steps, relaxed.
Susan glared daggers at me.
She spat and dragged Emily inside.
But Emily looked nervous.
I smiled coldly and followed.
Inside, Emily blocked the office door, arguing with Susan.
"Mom, no! Don't call the police! Lily and I are old friends—I forgive her! Don't ruin her future..."
"Please, Mom, I'm fine now. Drop it!"
