At the most critical moment, the police suddenly invaded the basement, entering from the trapdoor, and put a hole in Arielle's arm with their bullets.
Arielle screamed in terror and dropped the knife she was holding. She then crumpled up on the ground as she cried aloud in pain.
Raven wanted to run, but she was immediately ambushed by the police who'd been waiting for her. They grabbed her and pushed her against the ground.
"Let's see where else you'd like to run!"
"Ah!"
Riley had also been apprehended.
Meanwhile, blood was surging out from the open wound on my stomach like a fountain. Finally, I saw the police hurrying toward me.
After ensuring that I was in safe hands now, the adrenaline in my body died down, and I began to relax. Then, as my head fell to the side, I slumped in a dead faint.
…
When I woke up again, I was lying in a clean hospital ward.
The nurses immediately called the police over when they saw that I had woken up.
After the police filled me in, I finally learned that I'd been targeted by an international organ trafficking syndicate.
Arielle, Raven, and Riley were never a family. They weren't even related to each other.
They were three different women with three different personalities, and they each had their own ways to reel men in as their victims.
They were targeting strong, healthy men because their organs were a lot healthier, and therefore could be sold at a higher price. In fact, plenty more other men in the city had suffered a similar fate under their hands.
I had been extremely lucky. The police had spent days and weeks tailing the culprits before finally setting up an ambush that day, just in time to save my life. Otherwise, I would be lying in the morgue as a cold, lifeless body by now.
I thanked the police profusely for saving me, even though I was still quite shaken up by the event.
After that, I went back to the gym where I worked and noticed that Tristan wasn't there anymore. I asked the manager about his whereabouts, and he hesitatingly told me with a sigh that Tristan had been found by the river with his organs all stolen from his body.
He had died with his eyes wide open. Apparently, he had died from excruciating pain.
I inhaled sharply when I heard what he said.
…
After going through such a frightening ordeal, I finally realized that lust was the root cause of all my problems.
From that day onward, I worked hard and made sure to keep my head and heart clear of all impure thoughts at all times.
Eventually, life got back on track for me.
It was just that now, I needed my next landlord to be a male.
