Chapter 8

"Need some help, Nathan?"
A warm, deeply magnetic voice suddenly came from above my head, and I felt a shiver go down my spine. Something strange stirred inside me.
However, I didn't have time to think about it. I clearly needed help with my work, and urgently too.
I nodded, and Felix brought his laptop over and sat next to me. We were so close that I could even pick up a faint smell of perfume on him.
It was a very unique scent, one I hadn't encountered before. I didn't know which brand it was from, but his scent made me lose my senses.
Felix was a lot more knowledgeable than I expected. He didn't sound like a newbie trainee when he talked about market research. In fact, he sounded more like an experienced businessman who'd already been in the industry for years.
"Oh… I guess that makes sense…"
Even though I had joined the trainee team earlier than him, there wasn't much I could do but nod in agreement with his points while offering some smaller suggestions of my own.
In any case, Felix was the one leading the research now.
All of a sudden, I saw that he'd stopped drumming his fingers against my desk and was now looking at me nonchalantly.
"By the way," he said, looking slightly amused. "What were you doing in the bathroom this afternoon?"
I had been writing when he asked me the question. I got so flustered that I dropped the pen that I was holding.
Damn. Why did he have to bring that up all of a sudden?
"I… I was just…"
I couldn't stop stammering as the memories from earlier came rushing back. My face reddened at once.
"Nathan?" Felix said, leaning a little closer. His mesmerizing eyes searched deep within my soul as his warm breath fanned across my face.
"Is the air-conditioning too warm for you? You're getting red in the face. And your neck too."
He looked confused as he reached up to tug lightly at my collar. I could feel the pads of his fingers gently brushing against my collarbones, and his touches sent more shivers straight down my spine.
The wall was right behind us, and Felix wouldn't stop getting closer and closer to me. There was nowhere for me to escape to. A short while later, I heard myself exclaiming in a strained voice, "I'm not…
"W-Wait! I just thought of something! Let's discuss that, okay?"
In the end, I managed to quickly switch the topic back to work, thanks to a sudden flash of inspiration.
We continued discussing for a long time while straightening out points in the deck and making multiple calculations. We didn't slack off in the slightest and gave the project our all.
Surprisingly, Felix and I got along really well. We were very accepting of our arguments and also managed to build on each other's ideas.
We worked at top efficiency, and the presentation deck came along very well.
Felix was very concentrated on his work. He was like a robot that didn't need to rest. Meanwhile, I kept flipping through the documents so many times until my fingers hurt.
Eventually, I passed out on the desk from exhaustion.
When I woke up again, it was already early the next morning.
Felix was also sprawled on the desk next to me. His hair looked so soft and fluffy as he slept.
I quickly realized that he had covered my upper body with his jacket sometime in the night too.
I shifted a little, accidentally waking him up with a start. His eyes still looked a little groggy and bloodshot as he called out to me in his rough, husky, yet sensual morning voice.
"Nathan…"
He was right in my face, and I could feel myself heating up. I immediately sat up straight and shyly looked away, not daring to meet his eyes
I shifted my gaze to the presentation deck and saw that it was completed. At the very least, we hadn't stayed up all night in vain.
"I'll tell the Team Lead that you and I completed this proposal together when we present it to him later."
When Felix heard me say that, the corner of his lips curved up slightly in an unamused chuckle.
I was still confused by his reaction when his gaze softened and locked on mine. His voice was so tender and gentle as he said, "You're such a good boy, Nathan. You're so naive that you'd still happily thank someone for duping you."
I had still been feeling a little floaty until the words "good boy" slipped from his lips. Instinctively, I jumped to my feet, and I couldn't hear a word he said after that.
"I'm going to use the restroom."
Then, I ran out of the office like I was making my escape.
Did Felix just call me a "good boy"? But those words just made me think about the Love Mission app, and it was simply too embarrassing for me to bear!
…
I rushed home and showered quickly before going to visit Grandma at the hospital. Dr. Ron Ferrell told me that there was a high chance of her waking up from her stroke today.
I was so overjoyed that I cried happy tears. However, I realized that I was going to be late for work, so I hurried back, barely making it to the office in time.
I sat at my desk, staring at the app on my phone and waiting for it to give me my next mission. If Grandma's recovery was going to be my "reward" for each mission, I wouldn't mind completing a few more.
Surprisingly, though, the next mission just never came.
A breakfast wrap was suddenly placed on my desk, and it shocked me so much that I quickly closed the app.
Felix had brought me breakfast.
Before I'd even managed to thank him, Derrick sauntered into the office with an arm around Winter's waist. Chin titled arrogantly, he demanded, "Nathan Meyers! Are you done with the proposal deck I gave you yesterday?"
