Chapter 16

The room buzzed with whispers.
Tania was as cool as ice.
She pulled out her divorce papers from Samuel.

"Mr. Ferguson and I have split up. About me tricking Mr. Ferguson out of his money..."
Tania just smiled and did not say more.
Just yesterday, the super-rich Russell family had said Tania would start running parts of their business. Any piece of that business was worth more than all of the Ferguson family's wealth.
"To tell you the truth, I barely remember the presents Mr. Ferguson used to give me. It's funny that he kept all the receipts and even made a video to show everyone," Tania said, sounding a bit sorry, "I apologize for wasting everyone's time with this."
Everyone got the joke and laughed a little.
They were not laughing at Tania, though. They were laughing at Samuel.

Even if Tania did not have the Russell family behind her, Samuel's ordinary gifts probably would not impress her much.
"As for the rumors about me cheating, I bet you all saw that video," Tania said with a shrug. "I've already taken Mr. Ferguson to court for spreading lies. Just wait a bit and the official statement will clear everything up."
After she finished, Tania gathered her things, thanked the reporters, and left.
Elias quickly caught up to her and whispered, "Tania, should we tell that newspaper to stop spreading rumors?"

"There’s no need," Tania replied. "I invited that reporter on purpose. It's a chance to make the Russell family look good."
Elias could not help but laugh. "And here I thought you were just a bookworm."
Without thinking, Tania took Elias's arm and acted sweetly, just like old times.
They both had forgotten about the embarrassing confession that had gone unanswered just days before.
When they got to the door of the press conference, the reporters were still around. Then, a familiar man and woman turned all heads.
It was Samuel and Lucy!
Samuel marched right up to Tania. In front of everyone, he stared at Tania's arm linked with Elias's for a few seconds, then accused her, "Tania, after four years of marriage, you've made a fool out of me. Was it fun for you?"
Tania did not want any drama and tried to walk away.
However, Lucy stepped in front of her, arms wide.
"Your family is loaded with money, and yet you told Samuel your parents were gone when you two were dating? And this guy with you, isn't he supposed to be your brother? Then why did he tell me and Samuel himself that he's your fiancé?"
Elias went white as a sheet!
He knew that was a line that should never have been crossed for Tania!
Reporters rushed over as soon as they caught wind of the story.
"Ms. Russell, is it true what Ms. Canfield said?"
"You're one of the Russell family heirs, aren't you? Did you really tell Mr. Ferguson that your parents had passed away?"
"Elias, is he your brother or your fiancé? Did you cheat on Mr. Ferguson with your own brother while you were married?"
The questions bombarded her from all sides.
Elias was about to shield Tania when she raised her hand to stop him.
Instead of answering right away, Tania turned the tables. "Lucy, you said on your first day back in the country that you got a doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences abroad. You were going to teach at Kingston University, and the Rare Disease Research Institute was going to hire you. You also said you weren't planning to get married for the next ten years because you wanted to focus on your career."
She locked eyes with Lucy, whose gaze was filled with guilt. "Can you explain that?"
Lucy was taken aback.
Samuel whispered urgently in her ear, "Come on, answer her, Lulu. Say it's all Tania's fault! The Russell family is setting you up!"
