Chapter 5

On the back was a note.
"You already have your pup. Mine don't need a father. We will never meet again."
Kaelen's hand trembled violently, the thin piece of paper feeling as heavy as a mountain.

"No... this is impossible..."
His eyes blazed red as he looked wildly at the door. "Elara! Get out here! This isn't real!"
The courier just shrugged. "Ms. Elara boarded the shuttle to the Forgotten Continent right after sending this package. By now, she should be well out of the pack's airspace."
With that, he left.
[Kaelen's POV]
I stared at the pregnancy report in my hand until my vision blurred.

The word "Twins" seemed to mock me, burning into my retinas.
The whispers of the guests rose like a tide, threatening to drown me.
"Impossible. How could Elara be pregnant?"
My hands trembled violently.

The thin piece of paper felt heavier than a boulder.
I wanted to run after that courier.
I wanted to grab him by the collar and demand to know where Elara had gone.
But the moment I took a step, a pained moan came from behind me.
"Kaelen, my chest hurts so much. Am I dying?"
Liana collapsed into my arms, her face pale as a sheet.
Her fingers dug into my sleeve, desperate and clawing.
"Don't go. Please don't leave me and the pup. I'm so scared."
My mother panicked, shoving aside a Gamma who tried to help.
"Kaelen! What are you standing there for? If anything happens to your heir, can that woman pay for it?"
She pointed a shaking finger at the door.
"Elara is manipulative! She must have forged this report just to spite you!"
"If she were really carrying your pups, why would she run away now? She's just playing hard to get!"
My father stomped his cane on the marble floor, his face red with rage.
"Let her go! If she leaves, she never comes back! The Silvermoon Pack doesn't need her to survive!"
Looking at the fragile Liana in my arms and the newborn pup in the cradle, my feet felt like they were encased in lead.
Liana had risked her life to give me an heir.
And Elara chose this exact moment to humiliate me with a piece of paper that might not even be real.
I gritted my teeth, forcing down the inexplicable panic and sharp pain in my chest.
"Get Liana to the main house. Summon all the pack healers!"
In the end, I didn't chase after her.
I thought I just needed to handle the chaos here first.
Once Elara calmed down, I would go find her and coax her back.
After all, we had been mates for three years.
She was carrying my pups. Where could she possibly go?
I didn't know that when I turned my back, I was severing the last thread of our bond.
That night, Liana's condition stabilized, but I couldn't sleep.
I called Elara's phone countless times.
But the only response was the cold, mechanical notification that the line was disconnected.
