Chapter 5

Cynthia and I stared at that ultrasound for five minutes in dead silence.
"Damn, Robin really does play the field, doesn't he? He likes both men and women?"
Cynthia scratched her head and pointed at the name in the report.

"Look. Robin was practically flirting with that illegitimate son. They're clearly secret lovers. And yet, he managed to get some woman pregnant on the side?"
She added in disgust, "He's trying to trick one of us into being his wife to cover up his scandals and raise his bastard."
I felt a nagging sense that something wasn't quite right, but that seemed like the most logical explanation thus far.
After all, Robin was a man. He couldn't be the one pregnant.
The most likely scenario was that he had brought someone to undergo the ultrasound scan.
"It's disgusting." I rolled the report into a tight ball and said coldly, "So, to pave the way for his true love, Kyle, and give his bastard child a wealthy, legitimate mother, he was willing to sacrifice both of our lives? Not a chance in hell!"

Cynthia clenched her jaw in frustration and grabbed an eyebrow razor, preparing to dash out of the room. "I'll go to his house right now and castrate him! I'll make sure he never ruins another life again!"
"Stop right there!" I grabbed her arm and asked, "What do you think you're going to achieve? We have no proof. The Wright family has a hundred different ways to silence you."
Suddenly, a heavy pounding shook the door.
Dad roared, "Come out! You two have been dying to secure a marriage like this. Why were you acting so strangely when Robin was here today?

"Why did you have to force him into a medical exam? Even if he's hiding something, couldn't you have just played dumb?
"I've made the necessary arrangements. Robin will be at the West Hill Equestrian Club tomorrow. I want you two there, on your best behavior. You'll apologize to him and secure the marriage. Am I clear?"
Outside the room, Dad was busy plotting how to suck up to the Wright family. Inside, Cynthia and I looked at each other.
She scoffed and said, "Horse riding? Perfect. Robin destroyed my life twice. I swear I'll leave him paralyzed from the waist down tomorrow."

The weather at the West Hill Equestrian Club was perfect, with clear skies and a gentle breeze.
Robin was dressed in professional white riding gear. The loose, structured cut had managed to disguise his waistline.
Behind his sunglasses, his face remained unnervingly pale. He gripped his riding crop with an elegant yet aloof expression.
Kyle had tagged along under the excuse of being our driver, but spent the whole time hovering over Robin like a personal valet. He trailed behind him with an oversized gear bag, constantly holding the thermos and letting Robin take a sip every few minutes.
They weren't even trying to hide it anymore?
"Ladies, this way." Robin gestured toward the stables and continued politely, "The horses here are very docile. They're perfect for beginners."
Cynthia gave him a sideways glance and mocked, "You're so kind, Robin. But where's the fun in docile horses? We should ride a wild one."
Ignoring the protest of the staff, Cynthia marched straight toward the back of the stalls, heading for the biggest black stallion known for having the foulest temper in the club.
Cynthia shot me a quick wink. She was doing this on purpose. She might not look like it, but her equestrian skills were top-tier.
"Care for a race, Robin?" Cynthia swung herself into the saddle and tilted her chin up provocatively.
Before Robin could react, she dug her heels into the horse's flanks. The black stallion let out a piercing neigh and charged straight toward the resting area where Robin was standing.
"Ah! The horse is in shock! Get out of the way!"
