I looked down at him coldly. "It's too late, Grayson. I'm already married to Edwin."
"You're lying!" Grayson said through clenched teeth. "Even if you did grow up with him, you lost contact for four years, and he only just returned from overseas. How could your relationship develop so fast?"
"But it's the truth. If you don't believe me, you can look into this yourself."
"You're supposed to be with me! If you were already married to him, then you cheated on me!"
I sighed. "Have you forgotten that I broke up with you earlier today, Grayson? While you and Monica were busy having your fling in bed, Edwin and I went to the city hall. How can you say I cheated?"
Edwin did not look surprised when I suggested registering for marriage. He quickly figured out that I was worried about being continuously harassed by Grayson.
He even made a gentlemanly promise to me. "Once this has been resolved, you can annul the marriage anytime. You don't need to worry about me. But… if it's possible, I hope you'll consider me when you're ready to fall in love again."
He seemed a little embarrassed when he said that to me, and his ears turned slightly red. I looked at the solemn look on his face and burst out laughing. If I had not heard about it from the crowd today, I would have had no idea that Edwin had always had a crush on me.
"Did you suddenly leave the country four years ago because I was with Grayson?"
Edwin neither admitted nor denied this. All he did was look away. He might think that his actions were childish, but in my eyes, I found it unexpectedly adorable.
Grayson was stunned and looked like the air had been beaten out of him as he fell, sitting limply on the deck. Edwin said to him gravely, "You should face the truth, Grayson."
His head jerked up with reddened eyes. "You planned this all along. You took Ella from me while I was with Monica!"
"Took Ella from you?" Edwin laughed. "Ella isn't some object you own. This is a choice she made. If you hadn't hurt her so many times, she would never have chosen to protect herself this way."
Grayson tried to say something, but I was already tired. "Let's just end this, Grayson. Let's not see each other ever again."
With that, I hugged Edwin's arm and turned to leave without giving Grayson another glance.
