Chapter 8

700words
"You're the one who killed Myles!"
Casper coughed violently, calming himself down. Then, he looked up at Serena and shouted, his voice hoarse.
"Everything I did was because you told me to! You told me to act like we were in love so Myles would turn away from you and die in pain!

"You told me to embarrass him so he'd be humiliated in public again and again! You were the one who insisted on marrying me so he'd give up completely, so much so that he didn't even want to see you before he died!"
He didn't stop there because no one knew what an ungrateful person Serena was better than he did.
"Everyone knows you only got to where you are now because of Myles. Who do you think you're fooling? You couldn't stand people saying it, so you burned through every last bit of what you and he had.
"Benedict told you to show sincerity, and you come down here to punish me instead. Serena Jacobs, you deserve to end up alone!"
Serena stood there, eyes unfocused, as she watched him level his accusations against her.
Casper struggled to stand. Serena had made it clear she wanted him to die. At that point, fear had little power left.

"You used one man after another because you're weak. You don't deserve anyone's love. You're selfish, cruel, and pathetic. Even if Myles were reborn, he'd never fall in love with you again!"
Serena's pupils shrank. She lunged forward and clamped her hands around his throat.
Casper struggled desperately. "I was wrong… Help… Serena, don't…"
His eyes flew open in raw terror. Only then did it sink in that Serena truly meant to kill him.

The alcohol allergy had already made it hard for him to breathe. His body refused to respond, leaving him unable to fight back as the suffocation overwhelmed him bit by bit.
"I'll answer for what I did to Myles myself, but you don't deserve to be alive," she said.
Not long after, Casper's pupils dilated. His arms slackened and slowly fell still.
Serena released her grip. She watched his body collapse to the floor, then suddenly burst into laughter.
She turned and walked out.
At some point, it had begun to rain heavily. She stepped into it without hesitation, as if she felt nothing.
The last time she had been soaked like this was ten years earlier. Back then, I had stood against my entire family for her, pulling her into my arms in the rain while she was battered and bleeding.
At the time, everything felt simple. We believed that as long as we stayed together, nothing else mattered.
Ten years later, she had lost the right to love me.
When Benedict opened the door, this was the Serena he saw, dazed and detached.
She was drenched from head to toe. Only her eyes were fixed and hollow, the confidence and pride she once carried long gone.
"I killed Casper. I paid for Myles' life. Can I see him now?"
Benedict went pale. "Serena, have you lost your mind? Do you realize killing someone means prison?"
Serena laughed. Without me, what difference was there between prison and the rest of her life?
"Other than making things hard for everyone else, what do you actually know how to do?" Benedict snapped. "When it comes down to it, everything you did to hurt Myles had nothing to do with Casper at all."
His blunt rebuke cut through the fog in her eyes, restoring a flicker of clarity.
Serena turned and left, her steps unsteady.
The next day, she emptied Jacobs Group's entire account and established the Myles Foundation.
The directors erupted in fury. Jacobs Group wasn't Serena's personal domain. She had no right to decide the future of an entire company on her own.
Soon after, they discovered that every ongoing Jacobs Group project had run out of funds to continue. Serena was planning to take everything down with her.
When they stormed to her house to demand an explanation, they were met with a horrifying sight.
Serena lay unconscious in the bathtub, her body covered in wounds, not a single patch of uninjured skin left.
