Chapter 6

"Honey? Honey?"
When Serena woke again, the first thing she heard was my voice calling her over and over again. She was certain that everything about my death had just been an absurd dream.
She made up her mind then and there to settle down and build a future with me. It wouldn't matter whether I had been involved with Yvette or anyone else at all.

She only wanted me, not her male assistant or the male celebrities.
What she wanted was my future.
But when Serena opened her eyes, the only face she saw was Casper's. His eyes held a cunning gleam, nothing like my foolish sincerity.
In the past, she had been running nonstop between cities to secure clients, collapsing the moment she returned. When she woke up, I was by her side, my eyes bloodshot.
"Serena, do you even realize your life is tied to mine?" I'd said. "Without my permission, you don't get to put yourself in danger. Don't you dare push yourself like that again!"
She didn't even have the strength to lift her hand, only managing a bitter smile as she tried to reassure me.

"I know. I just want you to be proud of me. Once I turn things around, we'll settle down."
That had been her original reason for working so hard. She wanted to make me happy and for me to be proud of her.
What had she done now?
The thought made Casper's pretentiousness seem all the more hideous to her.

"Get out. Don't ever show your face in front of me again."
Casper was just about to tell her how hard he had worked to take care of her. But the moment he heard that, he froze.
"Serena, did I do something wrong? Myles died of illness. That has nothing to do with you or me. Why are you—"
He didn't get to finish. She struggled to get up and wrapped both hands tightly around his neck.
"Get out! Do you not understand what I'm saying?" she screamed.
Serena hadn't lost control like this since restoring the Jacobs family's name.
"Every time I see you, I remember exactly how you pulled me in and how you made me break his heart. How dare you call me your wife? The only husband I'll ever have in this life is Myles Spencer!"
Her eyes were bloodshot, her voice so cold that it sounded inhuman.
Casper was so terrified that he collapsed to the floor. "Do you have any idea how many looks I got at that wedding because you passed out?" he asked. "Do you know how much ridicule I took?"
After she collapsed, the wedding had to be canceled.
The guests were already seated, and everyone knew about her entanglement with me.
People whispered about how Casper deserved this for being a homewrecker and how he was nothing but a sugar baby. Those remarks shattered him instantly.
Unfortunately, he couldn't afford to offend any of them, so he endured everything in silence.
Now, he fell back on old habits, crying miserably in an attempt to regain her sympathy.
"Myles was a womanizer anyway. Who knows what he really died from? Maybe it was some filthy disease. Serena, didn't we agree to build a family of our own? I'll do way better than him. Just give me a chance, alright?"
The moment the words left his lips, she slapped him hard across the face.
"Don't you dare talk about Myles. Only a man like you, obsessed with climbing the ladder by any means, would settle for being a sugar baby. Myles is twice the man you'll ever be!"
Casper clutched his cheek, looking completely defeated. He couldn't understand why she had suddenly turned on him.
Didn't she hate me? What was so special about me that even death couldn't erase me?
Suddenly, something seemed to click for Serena. She grabbed Casper by the collar and hauled him up from the ground.
"Come with me. We're going to apologize to Myles."
