Looking through the crowd, I saw a familiar face. My heart ached.
My fiancé, Liam, had arrived.
He saw Ingrid on the ground and looked surprised. “Why are you hurt?!”

Ingrid covered her face, crying. “Liam, Luna killed Iris. She won't admit it and she hit me! You have to make this right!”
Wait, that's not right.
Last time, Liam was just getting off a plane. I didn't see him until I was dragged to the police station. Why was he here so fast?
While I was still overwhelmed by confusion, Liam raised his hand and struck me.
“Luna, I'm so disappointed in you. Iris loved you, and you murdered her? You've let everyone down. I've already called the police. We will get justice for her family!”
Then he turned around and apologized to Auntie Ava and Uncle Alex, humble and guilt-ridden.

The sting on my face was nothing compared to the aching of my heart.
The guy I loved for eight years was condemning me without even hearing any evidence.
How ruthless.
What's more, Liam now gently cupped Ingrid's face, like he was afraid of hurting her.

I wasn't blind. The concern in his eyes was obvious. Liam had feelings for Ingrid too.
Fine. I don't want a fiancé like that anyway!
My childhood friend and my fiancé both took Ingrid's side. She smirked at me triumphantly.
I wiped my tears roughly and stepped forward. I grabbed Liam's shoulder and slapped him across the face.
“Liam, you weren't even here! How dare you accuse me without evidence? That's slander! I'll sue you!”
Liam stared in shock. He never thought I'd hit him.
His face darkened. “Luna, you're still refusing to admit it? Fine. Don't blame me for humiliating you publicly.”
He reached out to tear my clothes.
He did this last time too, because my jacket was stained with Iris's blood.
But he knew that blood was from last week when Iris got her period and stained her pants. I gave her my jacket to wrap around her waist.
The jacket was a gift from him. Even stained, I couldn't bear to throw it away.
I never thought it would become evidence he'd use against me. It almost sealed my guilt.
Not this time. I won't let them win.
I let myself fall to the floor, sliding toward the door just as the police entered.
I hugged one officer's leg. “Officer, this man tried to assault me! Everyone here saw it!”
Liam scowled. He hadn't used any force. “Luna, what nonsense! I'm your fiancé! Touching you isn't a crime!”
I sobbed dramatically. “Assault is ‘touching' now? How disgusting! And after what you said, we're through! The engagement is off!”
Everyone stared at Liam. His face turned green with anger.
Ingrid rushed to his defense. “Liam has a reason! He must have evidence you hurt Iris!”
Then she reached for my clothes, eager. “Luna, is there blood on your clothes? Is it Iris's?”
Before I could react, someone kicked Ingrid away.
“Tsk. Trying to strip a woman in public? Are you challenging the law?”
