I laughed along all the way down. But as we reached the road at the mountain's base, a group of people appeared.
My eyes landed on the woman leading them, my smile instantly froze on my face.
It was Evelyn.
I remembered her once mentioning wanting to develop a resort in a peaceful mountain village. I never imagined it'd be here.
Evelyn seemed to feel my gaze and looked over.
Today, she wore a red V-neck gown—softer than her usual power suits.
I'd once told her she looked better in dresses, but she had retorted with disdain, “You think I'm like those silly girls who live to please others?”
See? She'd wear them—just not for me.
Evelyn walked toward me with dark expression. I gripped my jacket but felt strangely calm.
She was still the same, looking down on me from her pedestal.
“Had enough? Time to come home.”
So even now, Evelyn thought I was just jealous.
She glanced at Chloe beside me. “Liam, didn't know you had it in you. Ignoring my calls just to set this up? Using some... nobody... to try and provoke me?”
