Daniel left with Melissa.
She vowed I'd pay for what I did.
I sat on the sofa,shivering.
Evan stood beside me,his voice indifferent."Cold?Feeling dizzy?"
I nodded faintly.
He chuckled,dialing 911.
After hanging up,he pressed on wound on my head."You know you're bleeding?"
I felt the dull pain, touching my neck to find sticky blood.
I closed my eyes,sighing deeply.
"Thanks."
His tone was neutral."Last night,I told you—no need to saythanks."
This was my second meeting with Evan.
The first was last night, after those rich kids forced me off the road.
After struggling to lift my scooter up,I found the front tire punctured by nails, the headlight dead.
My phone was out of battery.
Autumn's chill bit as I stood in the wind,no passersby in sight.
What was Daniel doing?
Probably lost in Melissa's arms, sipping thousand-dollar wine, plotting his next lie.
I looked at the sky, seeing my future—dark, with no purpose.
A blinding light appeared behind me.
Overjoyed,I waved.
Evan parked beside me,lowering his window, revealing a stoic profile.
Seeing his luxury car,I regretted stopping him.
The rich kids'taunts and engine roars lingered.
They say that desperation drives people to anything.
Last night,I was that desperate.
My hands, tucked in my sleeves, clenched tight."Hi...could you help me?"
I was ready to face rejection.
Surprisingly,Evan hopped off his car.
He inspected my scooter, frowning."This thing's falling apart. The crash exposed its every issue.Repairs aren't worth it—get a new one."
After reflection,I agreed.
He handled everything, though it was late.
Watching my three-year companion being towed away,I felt mixed feelings in my heart.
He brushed dust off his hands."I’ll give you a ride...You're hurt?"
"I'll get you some meds."
I nodded."Thanks."
He paused, shutting the car door, smiling wryly."No need to say thanks."
He muttered something I didn't catch.
Driving,he suddenly asked,"What's your name?"
"I'm Jessica Lane."
He repeated my name, nodding."Jessica Lane...nice name."
