Early the next morning,after Michael and I sent our eldest daughter,Emily,to school and came back home,we met the so-called partner of my mother-in-law.
Calling him a partner was rather inappropriate.He looked more like Michael's peer,or maybe even younger than my husband.
My mother-in-law was wearing a red gauze dress today.She was leaning against the man's shoulder in a coquettish manner,and the man also put his arm around her shoulder.The two of them were sitting on the sofa,being affectionate with each other.
When they saw us come back,a big smile bloomed on my mother-in-law's face,which was something I had never seen before.
She took the man's hand and introduced him to us,"Son,Lisa,this is my boyfriend,Jack.He's 30 years old this year."
"Come to think of it,Jack is two years younger than Michael.You should take good care of him!"
As my mother-in-law said this,her face was filled with happiness and pride.
At this moment,I could already see that Michael's face had turned dark with anger.Out of courtesy,Michael pressed his lips together and remained silent,and so did I.
Who could have imagined that my mother-in-law's partner would be such a young man?He looked quite good-looking,tall and thin.
Seeing that we didn't say anything,my mother-in-law's gentle expression suddenly turned dark.She immediately launched into a fierce scolding,"Do you two have any manners at all?How have I taught you?When there's a guest,you still keep a long face.Who are you showing it to?"
Michael was irritated by his mother's scolding,and his temper flared up.Regardless of whether Jack felt embarrassed or not,he said contemptuously,"Mom,have you really figured out his intentions before getting into a relationship with him?What if he's after your money?"

My mother-in-law slumped onto the sofa,and big tears rolled down her face,smudging the makeup on her face.

My mother-in-law's forceful questioning left Michael speechless.

When Michael heard that his mother was going to marry this man,he almost rushed up to hit him on the spot.
I noticed that Jack instinctively hid behind my mother-in-law.

I wondered what my mother-in-law saw in him.
However,for the future of my children,I still held back my husband.
"Honey,don't be in a hurry.We should respect Mom's opinion.We can discuss it further."
My husband listened to me very much.
