Just before work ended, I saw Lily come out of the boss’s office with a pout and red eyes.
I didn't know what she said to the leader,but the result was obvious.She didn't get what she wanted.
For a moment,I paused, thinking. Lily's resentful gaze immediately locked onto me.
I just looked relaxed and didn't care at all.
I was about to leave when Lily suddenly blocked my way.
She asked aggressively,“Do you enjoy stealing other people's things? First, you steal other people's boyfriends, now you’re stealing other people's promotion opportunities?”
I couldn't help laugh when I heard that.
Now Lily had a kind of beauty that came from lacking brainpower.
Feeling the full weight of my mockery, Lily grew anxious first,“Don't try to deny it.You know very well how you got to this position!”
“Of course I know,”I replied loudly and confidently,“I earned it through working overtime day and night,relying on my own strength and efforts.”
I spoke with unwavering conviction.
The colleagues watching in the office nodded in agreement, clearly impressed.
Seeing this situation,a look of guilt quickly flashed across Lily's red eyes.
The corners of my mouth lifted even more. I asked with feigned sincerely,“Do you think that you can get promoted just by coming back after a nice vacation? Do you think the company belongs to you?”
She still had the nerve to go to approach the boss? She was just asking for humiliation!
As soon as I said this, everyone burst out laughing.
Wasn't she just a joke?
The colleagues couldn't hold back either and teased,“Lily,actually,even if you participated in this project,you couldn't be promoted like Supervisor Amy.After all,Supervisor Amy's qualifications are there.Don't you think so?”
“Yeah,you have no skills and don't want to work hard,but you still dream of getting promoted and a raise?You're daydreaming!”
“Hehe,you had a great time away and then you came back and wanted to be a supervisor? That’s hilarious!
The colleagues said exactly what I was thinking.
Wasn't it just absurd?
Lily's face turned red with anger,“What's there to be proud of?You're just an old woman that no man wants.I don't envy you at all!”
Lily was always took great pride of having a boyfriend and felt superior to me.
In fact,I honestly thought that Lily was deliberately targeting me and that's why she made these jokes. She wasn't ignorant of these simple truths.
This was what it meant to be blinded by love!
But it didn't matter I was now Lily's superior.Even if she was upset, she wouldn’t dare to target me openly anymore.
She avoided me when she was in the company.
A few days later, I found out that Lily had even gotten her boyfriend,Tom,to work in the company too.He was doing odd jobs in the logistics department.
Whenever there was something missing, or a light bulb needed replacing , or the water had to be changed, Tom would show up right away —eager and attentive.
They used every chance to show off their love in the office, making everyone around them jealous.
At first, I didn't think much of it, until I noticed they would rode their electric bike past me every day as I waited for a taxi after work.
I didn't believe that it wasn't on purpose.
Hearing Lily's cheerful laughter,I glanced over and saw the smug, triumphant look on her face.
Tom's expression made me speechless.It was as if he was asking me with his eyes,“How about it?Do you regret rejecting me back then?”
That familiar greasy feeling washed over me.
I immediately got goosebumps all over.
