Nathan raised his hands, and pleaded with me.”I’m innocent! I barely remember her.”
Through my continuous questioning,he recalled a faint memory. It was said that on the day of the Freshman year, he couldn’t reach me and asked Sarah,my dormmate,to pass me a gift since she was with me.
After that, she kept messaging him, using me as an excuse.

The principal berated her.”As a student, you don’t study hard but instead engage in these underhanded activities all day long. You’ve brought shame to the school!”
He tossed an envelope at her.”Take a look for yourself. These are the good deeds you’ve done. Truancy, bribing teachers, being a mistress, and getting pregnant before marriage. Which of these is something a student should do?”
She knelt,sobbing.”I’m sorry,Principal.Give me another chance.”
He trembled with rage.”Get out.Now!”
After pleading for a long time and realizing that the principal wouldn’t change his decision, she wiped away her tears. Before leaving, she even threatened, “You all just wait. It’s just a lousy school. When I become a wealthy socialite, you’ll all come crawling to me.”
The principal nearly collapsed. He immediately asked his secretary to announce the handling result to the whole school as an explanation to all the teachers and students and to deter other students from engaging in such improper activities.
The next time I saw Sarah,I’d just returned from exams and a trip with Nathan. She sit in my house with a baby in her arms.
My mother was sitting at the other end of the sofa, and my father was sitting between the two of them. I glanced at them,sitting.”What’s this,a coup?”
Sarah,eyeing my plain outfit,sneered.”Claire,this is my son.Be smart—take your mom and get out.Stop squatting in my house.”
I signaled security outside.”Some stray’s yapping my head off.Drag her out.”
Sarah clutched her kid.”Touch me,and you’ll regret hurting my son!”
Looking at her crazy appearance, with pimples on her face and a bloated figure after giving birth, there was no trace of the innocent campus beauty she used to be.
I folded my arms, walked up to her, and lifted her chin with my finger.”Sarah,mistress life not treating you well?”
She glared venomously.”Claire,I’m the lady of this house now.”
Sigh, what a fool. She didn’t even bother to find out who my mother was before staging this coup.
“Need a reminder? This is my mom’s house. Get out.”
I dumped a coffee cup over her head,soaking her.

Everyone turned to look at his gloomy face. He pointed at me, he said,”Claire,this is your brother and stepmom.”
I nearly laughed.What bastard deserves to be my brother?Stepmom?Were they reenacting some 1920s warlord drama?
I slammed my cup down.”My mom has never given birth to any younger brother for me.Take your mistress and leave my house.”
Luckily, when my mother discovered that the scumbag was having an affair, she secretly investigated the evidence of his infidelity and also found out about some of the illegal underworld-related businesses his company was involved in. She quietly separated their businesses,making it seem her company lagged behind his.
Now, even if they get a divorce, my mother and I won’t suffer much loss. And even if things come to light in the future, we won’t be implicated by him.
Sarah thought her coup would force a divorce,unaware Dad didn’t dare divorce,stalling until she birthed the kid.
My parents’marriage was an arranged one between the families, but they didn’t have no feelings for each other. They once had a period of happy and affectionate days.

Mom spoke.”There’s no need to say anything more, Robert. Do it with dignity.Sign the divorce.”
Sarah beamed,urging,”Honey,agree quick!”
