I’m a single mom, hired by a wealthy lady to be her nanny.
But I never expected that instead of chores, she would dress me in luxurious gowns.
When Laura Bennett told me this, I was floored. I couldn’t believe something so bizarre could happen.

Beneath her flawless makeup, her expression was nothing but calm, she uttered, “He cheated on me.”
I felt sorry for her but had no interest in meddling in someone else’s marriage.
As I started to decline, Laura cut in: “Sarah Thompson, your ex-husband abandoned you and your daughter. Don’t you hate him?”
“You investigated me!”
Laura smiled. “Background checks are standard. Ten thousand a month, plus fifty thousand when it’s done. You and your daughter could live comfortably. Interested?”
“Don’t worry, he’s clean, and you won’t have to actually sleep with him.”

I clenched my jaw, unable to refuse. The sum she was offering was too much.
Laura explained that Mark Davis was an ungrateful leech who built his fortune on her family’s connections.
As men do when they get rich, he cheated.
“So, you want me to seduce him?”

“Greed knows no bounds. From now on, you’re Anna Harper, the daughter of tycoon. That’s your new identity.”
“What should I do?”
I was nervous. I knew nothing of the elite world. Pretend to be a heiress and charm her husband?
Was she out of her mind?
Laura tossed me a stack of documents. “You have three days to memorize this. Also, clean yourself up. Take a bath.”
“I’m clean!”
Laura took me to an upscale spa, and then I learned what she meant by “bath”.
My first time experiencing luxury beauty treatments, I was tense. The endless array of mysterious bottles and jars left my skin glowing.
Laura, lounging beside me, said indifferently, “Lesson one: don’t act so curious. Just relax.”
I studied her, noting her subtle gestures.
The exclusive spa was impeccable.
For the first time in my life, I realized money was indeed a game-changer.
My daughter and I scraped by on less than two thousand a year, but two hours here cost Laura seventy-eight hundred—for a basic package.
She said my rough, work-worn skin needed pampering and gave me an apartment for me and my daughter, complete with a nanny so I wouldn’t have to lift a finger.
I threw myself enthusiastically into the role, eager for the day to meet her husband.
Three months later, I barely recognized the radiant woman in the mirror. Tears welled up in my eyes.
Was this really me?
Laura stood behind me, handing me an invitation. “There’s a gala tonight. I’ve arranged everything.”
I knew my moment had arrived.
Laura provided me with a Porsche and a personal driver.
In a lilac strapless gown, sitting alone in a corner, I drew curious glances but pretended not to notice.
Then he appeared.
Laura, arm in arm with Mark, flashed me a look of delight.
“Anna! You’re back!”
“Laura!”
I rose, feigning familiarity and joy, an Hermès bag at my side.
Mark watched us embrace, he remained polite and gentlemanly. “Darling, who’s this?”
“I forgot to introduce you! This is my high school friend Anna Harper. She moved abroad after graduation—her family runs a global business.”
“Anna, my husband, Mark Davis!”
I offered a light handshake, revealing my wrist adorned with an expensive women’s watch.
Laura casually dropped hints about my family’s wealth and assets. I caught the glint in Mark’s eyes—interest mixed with skepticism.
Soon, others approached, fawning and chatting with me, making Mark’s gaze toward me even more intrigued.
I left before the gala ended, feeling his eyes locked on me.
I glanced at the business card he had given me, smiled, and tossed it aside.
A heiress has to have some attitude, right?
