Crash!
The shattering glass mixed with guests'screams.
The doors swung open, and a well-dressed couple rushed out.
"What's happening?"
I recognized my birth parents instantly. Before Emily or Daniel could say anything, I said," I'm Claire Harper."
Those simple words made my father's face change.
"How do you know that name?"
Twenty-two years ago, when the Harper heiress was born, a wandering priest foretold a frail fate.
To change her destiny, she couldn't meet outsiders before age seven or reveal her true name before eighteen.
Thus, no one outside the Harpers knew the eldest daughter's name was Claire—except the family and the lost Claire herself.
"It's my name. Why wouldn't I know it?"
I looked at Emily and smiled
"But this so-called Miss Harper—why's she so eager to kick me out the moment she sees me?"
All eyes turned to Emily.
Daniel stepped in front of her to protect her.
"Mr. and Mrs. Harper, don't listen to this stranger."
"Emily suffered so much, lost memories."
"Maybe she accidentally let her name slip?"
Emily showed a scar on her hand.
"Doesn't this scar, from saving my brother, prove who I am?"
"What does a name matter? Does she have this scar?"
Before anyone could react, Emily lunged at me.
I pushed her back, but she tore off my jacket, revealing my smooth arm.
"Ha! What do you have to say now, you wretch?"
My mother was angry and glared at me
I smirked, slipping my jacket back on.
"That ugly scar? Of course I had surgery to remove it."
"And Emily, how did you get that scar?"
"Can you tell us exactly?"
Emily froze and then stammered," It's a burn."
"My brother took me to play with fire, and I got burned."
I chuckled, shaking my head.
"Wrong. I was lured to a grove."
"My brother came looking for me but got lost."
"To keep warm, we lit firewood and it caught the dry wood nearby."
"I shielded him from a burning branch."
"Oh, there's a mole behind my ear and a butterfly-shaped birthmark on my shoulder."
I took off my jacket to show the marks and grinned at the ashen Emily.
"What now? You said the scar proved it, but I have more proof."
My brother, Nathan Harper, who'd rushed over, froze at my words.
My parents turned to him. He nodded after a pause.
"She's right."
My mother nearly fainted, stumbling."Who…who's my daughter?"
Seeing my parents waver, Emily rushed forward.
"Dad, Mom!"
"You're believing this stranger?"
"I came with the heirloom, passed the DNA test."
"It's my engagement day, and this impostor shows up!"
"Who knows what she's plotting?"
Her frantic words steadied my parents.
"Right, we did a DNA test," my mother murmured.
