It felt weird.
Maybe he was grateful for my sacrifice,but I was only doing this so that Emma wouldn't cry,so she could live happily with him.
I still resented donating to him in my heart.
Dodging,I dargged him to the doctor's office.
"No dawdling.You need a kidney,let's do it.After this,I'm out of your lives for good.She loves you.Don't let her down—treat her right."
My hands shook,feet cold,tears threatening as I spoke.
It hurt,damn it,it hurt so bad.
I loved Emma,couldn't let go of our four years, I couldn’t let go of each and every precious moment we shared.But I couldn't make her happy,so I'd go.
Suppressing my tears and pain,I noticed Luke hadn't spoken.
Looking up,he was the one crying.
"You...what's wrong?"
Confused,I saw Luke pout,glaring through gritted teeth:
"Ethan!You’re the one who need a kidney!Your dad,your grandpa,your whole family needs kidneys!"
"I dressed up,thinking you'd finally fallen for my charm,ready to come out and be with me.And this?"
"You dragged me here for this?You know how hard I worked to match your outfits,necklaces,haircuts so that I can fool myself into thinking that we’re a couple?"
"You don't get it,you don't get anything!"
Luke's tirade left me stunned,shattered.
So...Luke was gay?
Dazed,I pointed,tongue tied,finally asking:
"Then you and Emma?"
"She's my aunt!I'm seven years younger,but she looks young,okay?"
My brain stopped working.Luke suddenly hugged me tight.
In that one-minute-seven-second embrace,37%of my brain shut down,36.5%raced,and 26.5%wondered:Who am I?Where am I?What's happening?
Luke's voice babbled:
"Forget it,we're done.Consider this hug my dignified goodbye.The world's full of men—I,Luke King,could get any other man than you if I want tof.Ethan,see ya."
Luke released me without hesitation.Then I saw Emma,shocked,neck red with fury.
She bit her lip,shook her head,and slapped my left cheek.
"Luke said you were meeting him for a date—I didn't believe it."
I frowned,trying to explain,"It's not—"
"Then I catch you two hugging."
She slapped my right cheek.
"Ethan,I misjudged you.You're disgusting!"
She kicked me,sending me flying in the air and landing near doctor's feet.
Pouting,tears streaming,Emma stormed off,her black hair flying.
The doctor bent down,concerned:"Sir,still donating a kidney?"
Speechless,I muttered,"Please...check if my kidney's okay first...thanks."
