Ethan tried grabbing my wrist.Grayson swatted his hand away.“Don't make me fight you outside a police station.”
He began unbuttoning his cuffs.
Ethan saw his fist, the shrank back, but shouted,“Emma,if you get in his car,we’re done!”
“Oh,really?”I feigned panic.
As he smirked,I dropped the act.“That’s great.I’ve been waiting for that.”
I looped my arm through Grayson’s,mimicking Natalie’s theatrics.“Grayson,let’s go!”
His arm tensed, but instead of recoiling, his lips twitched, barely hiding a grin.
“Emma!”Ethan wailed behind me.
“Dear brother—”Natalie’s cooing followed.“Don’t be mad. You’ve got baby.”
Ethan’s tone softened,disgustingly sweet.“Baby,you’re the best.”
I tugged Grayson’s sleeve,hurrying away.
My ears couldn’t take more sound.
In the car,I awkwardly released his arm.“Sorry about that…”
He pulled my hand back and smiling said.“We could make it real.”
I was so shocked that I couldn't speak.
He laughed.“I was just joking. Don’t worry.”
I said with smile.“Of course”
Although we haven't seen each other for many years, he is very talkative and never makes the topic or the atmosphere awkward.
As we parted,he asked to add my wechat.
He’d returned to the office earlier just to get my number.
That night, I pondered my next steps in bed.
Things with Ethan were untenable—I couldn’t stay at the company. But my shares complicated splitting assets.
My phone pinged repeatedly.
Eight messages are all from Grayson.
“Emma, would you like to cooperate with me?”
“It will be a win-win situation if we cooperate together.”
He sent a detailed business plan, message after message.
Grayson was a godsend.
Sensing my predicament,he offered to start a new company together.
He is in charge of investment and I am responsible for management.
This investor meeting netted me a major backer.
Good thing I hadn’t signed with Ethan’s company today.
Noticing my delay,Grayson prodded,“Don’t overthink.Trust me!”
Even this cool-headed guy got eager. He really wanted this partnership.
Smiling,I replied,“Ok, let’s do it!”
Grayson was all action. He secured a venue and staff in no time.
I have a new partner, soI left Ethan’s company.
The business scopes of our two companies are the same.
But my shares in Ethan’s company. I felt like fighting myself.
Then inspiration struck.
Why can't I own both companies at the same time?
A plan took shape in my mind.
