Our conversation drew a crowd.My boyfriend,Ethan Blake,pushed through and asked,“What’s going on?”
When Natalie saw him, she cried louder and throwed herself into his arms.“Wahhh, dear brother!Emma hit me.She is so mean, I’m scared!”
Everyone turned their eyes to me.
Ethan was my boyfriend,yet he held Natalie,not scolding her,but gently patting her back.“Baby,don’t cry.Be good.”
“Mm,baby is the best one!”Natalie clung to him like a koala. Her cloying tone gave me goosebumps.
As she calmed,Ethan turned on me, then said,“Emma,what’s your problem?Who gave you the right to hit people?”
I didn’t flinch. I replyed calmly,“I hit you?Why don’t you ask what she did first?”
He looked at Natalie.
Her face flickered with guilt,but she tried her usual coy dodge.“dear brother,I didn’t mean to!I just wanted to help the company!”
But Ethan happened to agree with this point
He snapped,“Is it wrong for baby to work hard?”
I was both angry and found her words very funny.
Raising my voice,I shot back,“Ethan,get a grip.We’re hosting a cultural art expo,and she wants a Linabell statue at the entrance.That’s absurd!”
Natalie,as if struck,burst into tears again.
Ethan soothed her,but his eyes turned icy toward me.“She just likes Linabell.What’s wrong with that?A statue’s no big deal.”
I stared at him like he was an idiot.A man brainwashed by his“baby”was terrifying.
Looking at Natalie,I sneered,“If she lacks basic taste and skill,she should leave now.”
“Wahhh,Emma,don’t fire me!I love this job!Dear brother,help!”Natalie’s doe eyes locked onto Ethan and dizzyed him.
He jumped to her defense.“Emma,what gives you the right to fire her?I’m the CEO.You’re just a VP.You can’t override me to fire her!”
He really forgot the past kindness.
