When my mother saw that I was serious, she immediately collapsed on the ground and started crying loudly. "I'm such a poor, pitiful woman. I raised such an ungrateful daughter who's such an ingrate. Now she wants to send our whole family to jail. I should have left her in the wildness when I gave birth to her. She's a curse, ruining my son's life."
Even in a situation like this, she still thought everything was my fault. No matter what her son did, she would find a way to blame someone else—even the knife salesman if he'd committed a murder.
The police were losing their patience. "That's enough. Making a scene here won't do you any good. We'll sort things out at the police station."
The police handcuffed my brother. Just as they were taking him to the car, Emily suddenly let out a scream. My mother and I turned around just in time to see a large puddle of clear liquid flowing between her legs.
My mother exclaimed,"Oh no!My daughter-in-law is about to give birth!"
I called an ambulance and hurriedly sent my sister-in-law to the hospital. When the doctor saw my sister-in-law's condition,he immediately wanted to push her into the emergency room.
My mother was very worried. She grabbed the doctor's arm and insisted, "Doctor, my daughter-in-law must have a natural delivery. That's the only way our baby will be smart."
The doctor impatiently pushed her away and said seriously, "We will decide whether a natural delivery is suitable based on the mother's physical condition. Judging from her face, she has severe gestational diabetes, and the baby is likely to be a macrosomia. We must perform surgery immediately. I remember this patient—I warned her to control her diet, but why has her diabetes worsened?"
My mother refused to budge. Ignoring Emily's cries of pain, she clung to the doctor. "No way. My daughter-in-law must have a natural delivery. Everyone knows that you hospitals like to scare people into having surgeries just to make more money. My daughter-in-law loves to eat sweets because my grandson needs the nutrition. If it weren't for my persistence, could my grandson have grown so well?"
Emily was in unbearable pain that she just wanted to get the baby out quickly. Seeing my mother holding the doctor back, she angrily cursed, "You old hag, let go of the doctor g! I'm in so much pain. Let me have the surgery!"
The doctor was also anxious and urged my mother, "Stay aside. Your daughter-in-law's condition is very dangerous. If we delay any longer, the baby will also be in danger!"
With that, the doctor managed to break free from my mother's grip and rushed towards the emergency room with my sister-in-law. After all, every second of delay increased the risk to the patient.
Seeing that my sister-in-law was really taken in for surgery, my mother immediately collapsed on the ground and wailed, "Alas! This hospital is heartless. They insist on giving my daughter-in-law a cesarean section. If anything happens to my grandson, I will never let this hospital off the hook!"
The onlookers couldn't stand it anymore and started pointing fingers at my mother.
"Your daughter-in-law's life is in danger, and you still want her to have a natural delivery. You're really a cruel mother-in-law."
"The hospital is considering the well-being of the mother and the baby. If you keep delaying, you’ll be responsible for harming your daughter-in-law and grandson."
"You’re the kind of person who causes trouble in hospitals and make being a doctor become a high-risk profession."
Seeing that everyone was scolding her, my mother became even angrier. She snatched the bottle of medicine from a passing nurse and smashed it on the ground.
"What do you know? I specifically consulted a famous fortune teller, who said my grandson must not have a cesarean section. I think the doctors in this hospital are taking kickbacks. All they want is just to make money from us patients. Humph!"
