My mind was clear now.
Ethan was shameless, defying ethics to claim me.
I wasn’t meat to be bought.
I slapped him hard.
He turned, half his face shadowed.I couldn’t see his expression, but it was grim.
I fled to my room, trembling, clutching my plush puppy, rocking it.
“Why does everyone hurt me?”
“What do I do?”
Moonlight lit the puppy’s eyes.
It gave me my answer.
Thirsty,I crept downstairs for water.
A strange sound came from Ethan’s room, the door ajar.
Curiosity pulled me closer.
Through the gap,I saw Ethan, shirtless, his lean waist moving rhythmically. His gasps were low, pained yet pleasured.
“Lily…my sweet Lily…”
He was…pleasuring himself,saying my name.
My mind reeled.Something broke free.I ran.
James appeared at the mansion.
I rushed down.He took my hand,saying we’d see a new movie.
At the city center, snow fell—the first of the season.
A flake melted in my palm.
James stood beside me in a camel coat, tall and elegant.
Snow dusted his hair, his brows, lending him a quiet sorrow.
On impulse,I kissed his cheek.
“For the movie,”I said.
He touched the spot, blushing like a sunset.
I giggled,skipping ahead.
In the shadows,Ethan watched,fists clenched,eyes bloodshot.
The snow thickened.
Back home,unease gnawed at me.
Something was coming.
Bang!
Ethan,reeking of liquor,burst in.
I backed to the window,wary.
He saw my caution, pain flashing in his eyes.
He advanced, demanding,“Lily,do you even have a heart?”
“You’re so shameless, throwing yourself at any man.”
I stared coldly.“You’re drunk.”
“Drunk?I sent you to the hospital for three years, and you still haven’t learned!”
“Don’t you know I hate you getting close to other guys?”
“If anyone can have you,why not me?”
He laughed, eyes red,his bitter smile twisted by alcohol.
Ethan,in pain?He thrived on others’suffering.
“Your love is disgusting,”I spat, pushing him.
My words snapped him.He grabbed my arms, pinning them, his hot body pressing close.
His kisses fell like a storm.
Nausea surged.I kneed his groin.
He groaned,and I broke free.
I flung open the window. The wind roared, curtains billowing.
Snow glowed faintly in the inky night.
I met his eyes, resolute.“Ethan, your love sickens me.I’d rather die than be with you.”
I leapt.
I landed in the snow, staring at the starless sky.
No light.
Only red waves of blood pooling beneath me.
