I clenched my fists, wiped tears from my eyes, and snuck back onto the bed.
As I lay down, my parents arrived. Seeing them worry, tears welled in my eyes again. “Mom, why’re you here?”
“YWe couldn’t reach you. We heard about the typhoon, power and water cuts. We rushed back overnight. At the station, your mother-in-law called about your accident!”
“Thank God, my baby girl’s tough.”
Hearing this and seeing the anxious look in their eyes, I couldn’t hold my tears back anymore, I threw myself into their arms and started crying.
“Mom!”
She patted me, “It’s okay. Just rest and focus on getting better, you’re still young, there’s a great chance you’ll get pregnant again.”
Dad frowned, “Where’s their family? Where’s Ethan?”
Sniffling, I recalled the conversation I had just heard, recounting everything.
Dad, livid, rolled up his sleeves. Mom stopped him. “Calm down!”
“My girl’s suffered! That punk won’t get away!”
“Emily’s been through enough, let’s just think carefully about what’s next? Emily, what do you want?”
Dad looked at me.
Calming down, I shook my head. “I’m done with him. ”
I thought at least his parents were decent people, but their words showed they too despised me.
No reason to stick around anymore.
Dad nodded, “Fine. When you get better, divorce him. Plenty of other fish in the sea. My girl won’t can have any man she likes, instead of taking their crap!”
Ethan and his parents walked in.
Seeing my parents, Ethan froze, “Mom, Dad, you’re here.”
“Don’t call us that”
Dad’s words silenced him. Knowing he was wrong, he bowed, “I was all my mistake.”
“Hardly,” Mom snapped, grabbing the food he held and tossed it onto the nightstand. “Go. You’ve spent so much time with your friend, you’ve got feelings. Comfort her. Once Emily’s discharged, you’re divorcing.”
His mother protested, “What’s this about? They’re just kids, nothing about it so serious!”
"It’s just that Emily’s weak, otherwise...”
“Oh now you’re blaming my girl? Why not your son!”
Mom raised her voice, “What husband abandons his pregnant wife in the middle of the nivght for another woman? What family could possibly raise their son to be like that!”
The ward’s door was open. Curious patients had gathered outside to watch. Ethan’s face turned pale.
Mom, who was incredibly articulate, roared with clarity, exposing what Ethan did.
His mother begged, “Please, there’s no need to make things ugly. I didn’t expect him to be such a fool. I’ve already slapped him, see!”
Ethan had a slap mark. Dad snorted, “He deserves it!”
"We don’t need you around dor her. She’s upset at the sight of you. Get lost.”
Ethan, ashen, couldn’t speak, knowing he had gone too far. He texted apologies.
I ignored him, texting a lawyer friend to handle the case.
I wanted a clean break. If he couldn’t let go, I would step aside, no need for me to put up with their despise anymore.
Sophie didn't do nothing, she visited the next day to taunt, “Emily, losing a child’s tough. Take care!”
“After all, Ethan won’t want you now. Stop hogging my place and leave!”
Furious, I slapped her hard!
She teared up, “Emily!”
Ethan rushed in, “Emily Harper! You’ve gone too far! She came kindly, and you hit her? Take it out on me!”
“Fine, you asked for it!”
