“Son,this woman is bullying us! She wants to sell your house and brought her lover to kick us out!”
Ethan’s dad brandished his phone smugly.”I’ve called my son back. We can’t control you, but he can surely make decisions for you, right?””
Ethan frowned and glared at me.
“Abigail, what’s this nonsense? My parents raised me,and you can’t even show basic respect or filial piety? I’m warning you,my patience has limits. If you keep acting like this, I’ll have to reconsider whether you’re fit to marry me.”
I looked at their smug faces and only felt irony.
Did they still think I was the naive Abigail, desperate to be with Ethan and could be easily manipulated by him?
“Oh? So what?”
Ethan faltered,unprepared for my calm.
But since he had already said those words, he didn’t want to lose face in front of outsiders, so he had to continue reluctantly.
“If you keep being disobedient,I’m calling off the wedding.”
I smiled faintly.
“I thought I made it clear last time.We have no relationship. What wedding?”
Ethan and his family were stunned.
He slammed the table and stood up.
“Abigail,what’s that supposed to mean?”
I shook my head coolly.
“It means we’re done.”
Ethan’s face flushed, he pointed at my nose and cursed.
“Abigail, don’t think that just because I dote on you, you can do whatever you want. How dare you threaten me with a breakup?”
I looked at the man I’d loved for eight years, now a stranger.
Over the past eight years, I had almost always granted his every request. Besides being nice to me when he first chased me, he had been taking himself more and more seriously. It was time to end this rotten relationship.
But Ethan didn’t believe I’d leave him.
“Getting tough, huh?Fine,I’ll wait. Without me ,who else will marry l you, a woman who has been slept with for eight years?”
He stormed off with his parents, throwing a taunt over his shoulder.”I’ll wait for you to come and beg me crying!”
The arrogant figures of the few of them left, leaving the property management staff and the real estate agent looking at each other in dismay. Finally, they asked me cautiously,”Ms.Sterling, about the house…?”
“Sell it,”I said calmly.”If anyone interferes, call the police.Don’t bother notifying me.”
After dealing with the matter of the house, I back home, I found Henry on the couch, his face stormy.
I was surprised.”Didn’t you go to the company today?”
Seeing me,he softened, rubbing his temples and sliding his phone toward me.
“Abby, if you have any difficulties, tell us, okay?”
The screen showed screenshots someone sent Henry—intimate photos of Ethan and Chloe, plus chat logs and social media posts.
[Henry,is this your sister’s fiancé?He’s lost it!]
Ethan had post statements in his moments. He not only criticized me as a jealous shrew but also said that I didn’t know how to be filial and had driven his parents out of “his” house.
[I spoiled Abigail over the years. She can bully me,but not my parents!]
[Unless she gifts my parents a house and apologizes to us in person,I’m not showing up to the wedding in two days. She needs a lesson!]
Henry frowned.”Let me handle this. You’re too soft.”
I stopped him.
“No.I’ll settle my own affairs.Don’t worry,I won’t show any mercy.”
Henry looked skeptical but relented.
“Fine,I’ll trust you once more.If you don’t handle it,I’m stepping in.”
I opened Ethan’s social media.
The comments were full of spectators. Our wedding was public knowledge, with Ethan’s disruption the original voices of either blessings or envy had all turned into people watching the show, betting on whether I would bow my head.
Most assumed I’d beg him, given how I’d been his doormat for years, always apologizing first.
I noted each commenter, then called Fiona, telling her to clear my schedule for the wedding day and rebook the venue.
Fiona was confused.”Boss, didn’t you say no wedding?”
I nodded.”Right.No wedding.”
“Then why…?”
I smiled faintly.”Venues aren’t just used for weddings.”
