When he finished, he stepped back to admire his masterpiece. His face was ashen, and he staggered two steps backward, closing his eyes with a grimace of revulsion.
Just then, the murderer called. His voice dripped with scorn.
"Then...thank you,Professor Thompson."
"The pleasure was mine."
The next day, this sculpture was silently deposited in the school warehouse. It wasn't until half a month later,on the way to be destroyed, that someone accidentally dropped it.The sculpture with the body inside shattered on the floor, scaring everyone. Police were called immediately.
My remains were transported to the precinct, and as a school professor, Daniel Thompson was routinely brought in for questioning. The forensic report stated:
"The victim is a young woman, approximately 22 years old. Time of death: within the past month. All internal organs have been destroyed. The body is coated in resin paint and rosin, likely to slow decomposition and mask putrefaction."
"Forty-eight stab wounds are present. It is concluded the victim was deceased before being transformed into the sculpture."
"We have found that besides the warehouse manager, only Professor Thompson has the key to this warehouse."
"Care to explain,Professor ?"
Daniel stared at my unrecognizable remains, his brow barely furrowing, his eyes hard with disdain. He denied everything flatly.
"I know nothing about this."
“I rarely stay on campus late. I prepare lessons at home each evening—any colleague can confirm that.”
"As for that night,I left early and saw nothing unusual."
They didn't even know when this sculpture was put into the warehouse in the first place. Now,the clues were completely cut off.Officer Linda could only sigh.
“We take your word for it, Professor,” she said
"It's just a pity..."
Officer Linda looked at the body on the autopsy table and her gaze tinged with sorrow.
“We don’t know who her family is—whether she was someone’s daughter or mother. We’ll have to wait for the DNA results to identify her.”
After Daniel completed the registration according to the regulations,Officer Linda saw him out.
As they parted, she clasped his shoulder.
"I heard that you and Annie are engaged. I haven't congratulated you properly yet."
"If your sister were here, she would definitely be very happy for you."
Officer Linda and Daniel's sister used to be college classmates.I had seen her at Lily's funeral.
But when Daniel heard these words, his body stiffened slightly, and his eyes turning glacial.
"I will never marry the woman who killed my sister."
“She means nothing to me now.”
Linda hesitated, studying him.
“Annie wasn’t entirely to blame for what happened to Lily. The killer was deranged—she was a victim too. She’s always been so careful; there must be a reason for her actions.”
“And I know she’s not reckless. You should talk to her. Don’t let things fester like...like what happened with me and Lily. Regret hits harder when it’s too late to fix things.” Her voice faltered, haunted by memory."
I just don't want things to be like between me and your sister.By the time the person is really gone,it's too late to regret."
Officer Linda seemed to think of something unpleasant, and his expression was filled with pain.
Daniel’s expression darkened, unyielding. He ignored her plea, his voice icy.
"Even if she dies at my feet, I won't forgive her."
“No apology can bring Lily back.”
When I heard these heartless words,a bitter smile curled my lips.Daniel Thompson, this is what you wanted...I wonder if news of my death will finally bring you peace.
