In our senior year of college, the unexpected change came suddenly.
My father, as a high-ranking official, had an overly high-profile way of doing things.
He was sued for corruption and was directly sentenced to death.

My mother and I couldn't believe it, but the fact was there, and we had to accept it.
My mother, a woman who had never suffered any hardships since she was a child and had been pampered by my father so much that she didn't even touch the spring water for cooking, couldn't bear such a huge change and committed suicide at the time when I came home from school.
I remember that day the wind was very strong, and the clothes fluttering in the wind could almost lift up my thin body.
Christopher sent me to a dirty and messy alley and hugged me tightly.
"Amanda, the difficulties in front of you are only temporary. Auntie is not in a good mental state and can't take care of you. So you have to cook for yourself. If you really can't, I'll buy food and bring it home for you. Remember, you still have me."
I nodded vigorously. The wind blew my hair all over my face, and Christopher gently tucked it behind my ear.

We moved from a two-story bungalow to this place.
In just one month, my mother and I lost about ten kilograms of weight. I hadn't had a good meal for about half a month.
My mouth tasted bitter, and my throat hurt so much that I couldn't even swallow my saliva.
My heart ached, my head ached, and everywhere hurt. However, I couldn't shed any more tears.

At that time, I didn't know that there was even greater suffering waiting for me.
When I climbed to the fifth floor, I tiptoed and opened the door.
The successive changes made my mother extremely irritable.
I didn't want to hear my mother's shouting and crying anymore. I just wanted to be alone quietly for a while.
But for a long time after I entered the door, I didn't hear any sound.
I searched every corner of the house.
It wasn't until I finally pushed open the door of the bathroom that I saw my mother lying on the cold floor, and there was red all over the floor in front of my eyes.
I forgot my reaction at that time. I only remember that someone picked me up and shouted my name loudly.
While shouting, he pulled my hand that was covering my head.
"Stop screaming, Amanda. Don't be afraid, Amanda. I'm here, I'm here."
I held two funerals in a row, feeling as numb as a walking corpse.
The high-ranking officials and noble people who used to try their best to come to my home disappeared without a trace after the incident.
The relatives and friends who used to want to curry favor with us were even fewer.
In the empty hall, I could only see my mother's black-and-white photo, with a gentle smile on her lips and full of love in her eyes.
How could you bear to leave me alone?
My grandparents rushed over from Toronto.
They suddenly looked ten years older.
My maternal grandparents knelt down and couldn't get up. After crying frantically, they looked around blankly.
Were they also like me, praying that there was really such a thing as a spirit or soul in this world, something that could be affected by ordinary people and come back to take a good look and say goodbye properly?
After the funeral, my grandparents firmly insisted on taking me away.
Christopher walked over a few steps and stood in front of me.
His scattered broken hair covered his forehead.
He tried his best to say good words patiently,"Grandpa, Amanda is not suitable to go abroad now. At least she has my care here. If you are worried, I can marry her immediately and get the marriage certificate."
"Who gave you permission? "A stern scolding sounded particularly intimidating in the empty hall.
Christopher's mother walked over quickly with sharp eyes and a fierce expression. She pulled him over forcefully.
"Why are you meddling in other people's family affairs? "
Christopher glanced at me. At the age of just twenty, he was at a time when he couldn't restrain his temper, especially towards his closest relatives.
He was so angry that he shouted at his mother,"Mom, can't you be reasonable? Uncle Lin was framed. Moreover, Amanda is innocent. Why should she be forced to bear the unjust charges? "
Christopher's mother didn't listen at all and said in a tough tone,"You come back with me. Did I convict her father? If you can't figure this out, don't blame me for not recognizing you as my son."
Christopher, who was 1. 86 meters tall, used all his strength to shake off the two security guards beside him.
He stared into my eyes seriously and stubbornly, and said harsh words to his mother,"Mom, you can lose me as a son, but I can't live without Amanda."
Unexpectedly, an old hand is the most skillful. Christopher's mother didn't take these words to heart at all.
With a slap, she slapped Christopher on the face, and five finger marks immediately appeared.
She looked back at me, which was a warning and also a hope.
She probably hoped that I would let her son go.
I couldn't say a word and stood there stunned. I couldn't move my steps, and I couldn't lift my arms either.
My whole body was out of my control.
My grandparents couldn't stand it anymore and came over to lift me up on both sides.
"Amanda, can we have a little self-esteem? When we go to Toronto, there are plenty of good men there."
My long hair fell down, blocking my sight. I just felt so tired, so tired that I wanted to sleep forever.
I thought that I was already miserable enough, so I should let my lover go.
