Watching his receding figure, I found myself wondering whether the anniversary would bring a surprise or a shock?
Just as I arrived at the hospital room door, the sound of two people playing around came from inside.
I peeked through the crack in the door, like a thief stealing glimpses of someone else's happiness.
Bailey Wright wore an oversized hospital gown, her slender hand caressing her belly.
"Simon, do you think this baby will be a boy or a girl?"
Simon Summers knelt on one knee, carefully leaning in to listen to the baby's heartbeat, his face full of the joy of becoming a father for the first time.
"I'd be happy with either. Ever since Aria was... I thought I'd never be able to have my own child in this lifetime. I never expected heaven would bless us."
He gently placed a kiss on Bailey's forehead: "Thank you for your hard work."
Bailey pursed her lips, turning away dissatisfied: "There you go mentioning her again!"
Simon embraced her as if comforting a child, softly reassuring her.
At that moment, I could no longer suppress the emotions in my heart, tears falling in large drops.
My hand unconsciously reached toward my abdomen.
Yes, there was once a little life here too.
After accidentally saving Simon Summers years ago, his enemies targeted me instead.
It was a rainy day.
Three weeks pregnant, I was hung in an abandoned building, tortured day and night.
They wanted neither money nor power, merely to torture the person Simon Summers cared about most.
When Simon Summers arrived, he found his beloved wife lying motionless in a pool of blood.
The doctor said I could never get pregnant again.
Simon became consumed with rage, and overnight, everyone who had ever crossed the Summers Family was dealt with.
He held me with guilt and cried, saying it didn't matter if we couldn't have children as long as I was still alive.
But I knew he still cared deeply about it.
Whenever he saw families of three around us, he would always pause to look a little longer.
Therefore, this became a regret between us.
But now, he no longer has that regret...
At that moment, sounds of a man and woman in the throes of passion came from the hospital room.
My stomach cramped violently, and I covered my mouth, unable to control my retching.
After fleeing the hospital in disarray, all my grievances and pain erupted in that instant.
All strength drained by emotions, anger and helplessness intertwined as tears flooded out like a deluge.
Suddenly, several drunk men approached from ahead.
By the time I realized something was wrong, I was already being dragged into a dark alley.
"What are you doing!" I stared wide-eyed in terror.
The three men smiled lewdly: "What do you think we're doing? What decent girl wanders around alone late at night?"
"Get away!" I threw everything throwable nearby until nothing was left.
My legs seemed to lose all strength, too weak to support my body.
I instinctively dialed that pinned number.
Ring, ring, ring——
Fortunately, the call was answered quickly.
"Simon! Help——" The rest of my cry for help got stuck in my throat.
From the other end of the phone came nothing but intimate panting and Bailey Wright's determination.
"Aria seems to be calling you."
Simon pushed her away and bit her neck playfully: "Focus."
She let out a soft moan, and they both surrendered to passion once more.
My whole body was trembling, my gaze confused and frightened.
The drunken man ahead lunged at me like a hungry wolf. I completely gave up resisting. My phone crashed heavily to the ground, and the sound of fabric tearing was particularly jarring.
In my daze, it seemed someone was shouting about calling the police.
But none of that mattered anymore.
I was so tired, I just wanted to drift off to sleep...
