Chapter 3

Simon Summers didn't return home for the next few days, but Bailey Wright's social media updates were constant.

It was nothing but the progress and details of a hundred little things about their relationship.

Looking at it annoyed me, so I simply turned off my phone.

Just as I was about to hit the power button, Simon's special ringtone sounded.

"Hello?"

Simon's voice was gentle: "Aria, didn't you always want to go mushroom picking in Yunnan? I bought tickets for this afternoon, so hurry up and pack."

After hanging up the phone, I still found it somewhat unbelievable.

He had been busy accompanying Bailey lately, so I thought he'd forgotten.

Sunlight shone through the window onto our wedding photo on the bedside table, both of our faces beaming with smiles, as if we had returned to where it all began.

It's fine, I only have one month left anyway, might as well treat this as a final farewell.

But when I arrived at the airport, I discovered we weren't the only ones going.

Upon seeing me, Bailey Wright, dressed in all white, hurried forward to grab my hand.

"Aria, Simon told me you can identify mushroom types, so I asked him to invite you along. Is it too much trouble for you?"

So... it was for her?

Facing my questioning gaze, Simon Summers nervously looked away.

I laughed self-mockingly.

"It's no trouble." I withdrew my hand without showing any emotion.

As a woman, I couldn't bear to see her innocent self traumatized again, so I kept swallowing my bitterness. But after learning the truth, I just felt disgusted.

Bailey Wright, however, threw herself into Simon's arms as if she were the one who had been wronged.

"Simon, is Aria upset?"

Simon's face immediately darkened as he pulled me aside.

"I specially canceled work to bring you out to relax, and you're giving attitude to whom exactly?"

I sneered: "You know perfectly well who this is specially for."

Bailey hurriedly grabbed his arm, acting like the understanding one.

"It's okay, Simon. I'm fine."

Looking at the scenery outside the window, my mood lightened considerably, and I unknowingly fell asleep.

After getting off the plane, I was forcibly taken to a restaurant by Simon Summers.

He considerately picked food for me: "You've lost weight recently, you need to eat well."

I stared at the peeled shrimp in my bowl, silent for a moment.

Bailey Wright stood with her hands on her hips, complaining: "Didn't you say you would only peel shrimp for me?"

"Alright, alright, I'll only peel them for you." Simon smiled indulgently, accommodating all her little tempers.

After a while, the shrimp in front of Bailey piled up like a mountain.

He gave me a look, warning me not to say anything out of turn.

I remained silent and moved all the shrimp from my bowl to Bailey's.

Simon was somewhat surprised.

During a break to the restroom, he blocked my way.

"Don't be angry, I'll make you a full shrimp dinner when we get back."

"Simon." I looked at him calmly: "I'm allergic to shrimp."

With that short sentence, Simon suddenly woke up to reality.

He stood there, somewhat at a loss.

"Sorry, this was my fault."

I did not accept his apology.

When it was time to assign rooms for the night, Bailey Wright, using their status as a couple, insisted on sharing a room with Simon Summers.

Simon hesitated and looked at me.

I pretended not to notice and turned around to go back to my own room.

The guesthouse didn't have great soundproofing, and I fell asleep that night accompanied by the sounds of playful noises from next door.

I hadn't expected Simon Summers to be waiting outside my door early the next morning.

As soon as I opened the door, a familiar clean, crisp scent entered my nostrils.

Simon hugged me tightly, his tone remorseful: "Aria, once Bailey recovers her memory, I promise I'll make it up to you properly in the future."

At this moment, he might be sincere, or perhaps he was just seeking comfort for his own lies.

But none of that matters anymore.

Simon, there is no future for us...
