Chapter 125 The End

The king watched me with keen interest from across the table. "You're the girl that's caused all this trouble."

He pressed a hand to his chin and I couldn't hold back a scowl.

"Me?" I frowned. "I didn't do anything. I didn't ask for my mom, the queen, to go make a mess of things. I didn't ask her to pass me over to humans, who, by the way, are amazing parents. I never asked for the AOUB to capture and torture us. And I sure as heck didn't ask you to be here."

"Carly!" Mom, the human one, snapped. "Manners!"

"What?" I eyed her. "It's the truth."

The king smiled. He freaking smiled, nodding slowly. "I agree with you on that."

I blinked. "Oookay?"

"You see, I'm here because rumor had it the queen was hiding here. To my shock, she dropped a bomb on me when I arrived."

My eyes flicked to the queen, who had a stiff smile on her face. If she smiled even harder, her face would crack into two.

I glanced back at him. "Me?"

He nodded. "Yes. Turns out my daughter has a half sister."

"They found her, Salyssa," the queen suddenly said. "She's safe."

"Yes," the king sighed. "After I was under the impression my daughter might be dead." Clearly, he was not impressed. "I'm just relieved to learn she's alive. Even the queen…She explained to me your situation."

"Which one?" I asked. "Because we have a few."

He inclined his head. "I'm aware of that. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do in my power about the AOUB. They've been a neusance for years."

"I already have a solution," Rake spoke up. "The human authorities are on them already."

Ember beamed at him. "They're in big trouble."

"Very big," Rake added. "Nothing will save them now."

"What did I miss?" I asked.

Rake waved me off. "Nothing to break your head over. Janice is in for prison. For a long, long time. And the AOUB will be closed permanently."

"Just like that?" I asked, and he nodded. "Wow. Just wow."

"Yep." He grinned.

"Well, that's good new then," the king peered at Rake. "Thank you, fairy."

Rake nodded. "My name is Rake."

The king ignored him, turning to me. "It's come under my attention that our law needs a bit of tweaking."

My heart began to beat faster and I straightened.

"If you're not aware, your mother and I have been forced under an arranged marriage."

I nodded. "So I heard."

"I have the world of respect for her, but we don't share any romantic interest. In fact, I understand she's in love with a human. Your father."

The queen's face turned sad. "He's no linger alive."

The king peered at her, but didn't say anything, before resuming his attention on me. "Also, we've been starting to slowly rebuilding our trust in humans. Your human parents have proved to me that not all humans are like the ones we came to know."

"I'm sorry," I said. "For what they did to our people."

There it was. I was starting to accept myself as different. Who would have thought?

Kayn shot me a surprised glance, and squeezed my hand. I smiled in return.

"It was horrifying, to say the least." The king sighed. "I decided to adapt the law. It's time we open up to humans and learn to exist alongside them. This will also help prevent problems like that AOUB."

"Let's hope so," Kayn added.

"Indeed," the king agreed. "Therefor I decided it's in the best interest to remove the law regarding forming relationships with humans."

Hector suddenly leaped up from his seat. I swear, he looked like he was about to cry. Frankly, I wanted to cry with him. "Are you for real?"

"Yes," the king said.

Hector muttered a curse and bolted out of the room. I had a feeling there was a sweet, old lady he was going to go to.

"Thank you," I said to the king. "But what about me and…my mother? The queen?"

The queen looked surprise at first when I referred to her as my mother. Then, she offered me a warm smile. "We are free, With the change of law, no one can do us harm."

I wanted to cry. Well, I did. My vision blurred and I ducked my face to bury it in Kayn's shoulder.

This was unreal.

An hour ago I had given up on life.

Now, the world was perfect.

After that, our parents had an intent discussion on living arrangements regarding me.

The queen wanted to find a home nearby so she could visit me, and get to know me. The king offered me a room in the palace to visit from time to time and get to know my mermaid sister.

And, they discussed an approach of how to announce their existence with my human mom, who by the way, would make tons of money for supposedly discovering them.

Life, was perfect.

"Now, whose going to keep us on our toes?" Kayn asked as we walked outside, a crap-eating grin plastered on his face.

"Belinda?" I supplied with a laugh.

He peered over his shoulder, at where Belinda sat on the porch scowling at us. "Still not friends?"

"We had our moment at the AOUB," I said. "But no, doesn't seem like it."

"Well, let me give her something to work on, then." Kayn suddenly pulled me close and kissed me.

I giggled into his mouth, but soon got lost in his kisses.

I couldn't have asked for anything more.
