Chapter 116 Tumbling Down

"It's going to be okay," he breathed, holding me tighter. "Everything will work out. That, or we will make it work."
"How did my life suddenly become such a mess?" I sniffed against him. "Things just keep getting worse. Okay, I knew my parents weren't my parents, but for my real mom just to show up out of nowhere and drop a bomb like that?"
"I know," he sighed. "I'm still trying to recover from finding out you're royalty. But to be the daughter of the queen? I don't even know what to say. This is a lot."
I wrapped my arms around his back and pressed the side of my face to his chest, pushing out a shaky breath. "She wants me to go with her."
"The hell you are," Kayn bit out. "You're staying here, on the island. I don't see why she wants to find you all of the sudden, knowing your life is at risk if they find out."
"I guess I didn't give her a chance to tell me," I admitted. "But I can't imagine what happened that made her decide it's safe enough. Even if it is, I don't want to go."
"She can't make you, even if she is the queen," he said, but his tone lacked confidence.
I pulled away enough to glance up at him. "What if she does?"
"Then, we run away," he said simply.
I couldn't resist a smile. "You'd run away with me?"
"Yes, I wouldn't hesitate kidnapping you if it comes to that," he answered with a serious tone, but the corners of his lips quivered as if he was also fighting a smile.
"You're insane," I huffed a laugh.
"I never said that I wasn't." He leaned his head closer until the tips of our noses brushed. "But in all seriousness, I'd do anything for you. And I meant it, I would run away with you if it meant keeping you safe and close to me."
I swallowed, my eyes fell onto his lips. He didn't waste a second on that notion, and he crushed me with a kiss, pushing me back onto his bed.
I didn't fight him and dragged him down with me. We sank back into the soft mattress, the world and its problems were suddenly forgotten.
Kayn pulled back suddenly, pushing my hair from my face and gazing down at me. "You know, I'd have my wicked way with you."
"But?" I asked and he laughed, incredulous.
"So, you wouldn't even try to stop me?"
"No," I answered honestly. "I gave up trying to fight you or pushing you away. Honestly, I'm just tired and right now all I care about is keeping you close."
"You have me close." He picked up my hand beside me and pressed it to his chest. "Closer than you can ever imagine."
"Can't believe I'm saying this, but, seems like the jackass got a little part of my heart too."
"Yeah?" he smiled. "So…We've got something to talk about, now that I've got you alone and the odds might be more in my favor now…"
"Yeah?" My brows shot up. "What would that be?"
"I want to make this official." He played with my fingers. "I know I already bragged at school about it, but I think you know it's just me being well, me."
"Soothing your ego?" I supplied with a wide grin. "Right?"
He snorted a laugh. "I won't argue that. I guess it's true."
"Okay, so," my eyes narrowed to our now clasped hands. "What did you mean by making it official."
"Would you be my girlfriend."
I fought a smile. "Aren't we a bit past that now? I already kind of assumed that."
When my eyes met up with his, my smile dropped when I noticed the serious look on his face. I sighed, releasing his hands and lifted mine to hold his face in mine.
I peered up at him, returning an intent look of my own. "Yes, Kayn. I'd love to be your girlfriend."
He pushed my hands aside and leaned down so that our lips brushed a few times, before he said, "That's what I'd love to hear."
A knock sounded, and Kayn released a long groan. "Seriously?"
"Hey, so uh, we have a problem," Embers voice sounded by the door.
"What on earth is wrong now?" he retorted. "Do I even want to know?"
"Yeah, uhm," Ember hesitated. "Grandma just showed up."
Kayn peered down at me with wide eyes. "Well, shit."
