Chapter 110

She looked at me with her eyes popping, as though she was slowly losing it.
I knew Christina to be somewhat emotionally volatile, and I didn’t think this prison cell was doing any good to her already declining mental health. But to say anything to her about that was simply asking her to strangle me through the cell gates if she could manage it. I liked my head where it was, so I nodded in understanding, "I will, I most certainly will. But you just have to be a little bit patient. I know your mother won't let you suffer for nothing. It's the space, I suppose that is really terrible."
"It’s Everything! Everything plus this place is terrible! All of it is terrible. Why could he simply not let me be? Strange as it may sound, I truly believe I was experiencing a reform where I was. Now he’s just gone ahead and sought out the demon in me. Whatever comes from this, he better simply accept it.”
“Sorry about all this.” I said quietly, completely at a loss.
“Can you believe that brother of mine, had the audacity to go find me all the way in Africa and pick me up from all of my pleasantries? At first, he even believed I was responsible for whatever the hell was going on with Ember. As if I wanted it done I wouldn’t have done a much cleaner job. Perhaps I should even begin to plan her demise. At the very least, I would be justified for all the bull crap I had to endure because of her."
"Don't be so bold about saying such things here. Paris has been going on about how he didn’t think he could trust anyone anymore. You know the wall has ears. These ears will be more than happy to report anything that sounds like disloyalty."
"Oh screw that!" she spat, and began pacing, "Paris can enforce whatever rule he thinks will make home feel safe. That’s none of my business. You, just do whatever you can to get me the hell out of here."
"I will. But do you have a plan that is foolproof?"
"just one. But it's somewhat humiliating."
"Let's hear it."
"Have you considered the possibility of… I don't know, talking to your mate?"
"talking to Paris?"
"Of course. My mother said she would. But we all know the boy has a bone of contention with both my mother and I. so there's only you left. Because of course, Ember is out of the question."
My eyes narrowed at the thought of Ember being a consideration to soothe Paris. But I said nothing.
"as much as I'd love to speak to Paris about setting you free once again, I'm not sure if that's a plan that could work. We already argued prior to my fall. He was adamant about you being in here. He said even though you aren't responsible for what happened to Ember now, you were responsible for other misdeeds. He wouldn't let up."
"I see. So you've slowly lost his affections, I see."
I narrowed my eyes at her, "that's not what I said."
"Well, that's what I heard. But that's not the whole problem. You need to do all you can to make sure that you make your way back to the softest parts of his heart. Otherwise, we lose absolutely everything. You're still in his life now, and you can't even reach him. Imagine just how completely hard life will be when you've lost all access to him. I'm suffering now, but don’t think I'm the only one who is going to suffer, your time will come and who knows if you're going to go through worse than I am just right now."
"I understand what you're saying. But if I'm to speak to Paris again, then I have to wait for him to calm the hell down. His way over his head with finding the person who is trying to mess up this pack."
"I can bet anything, he chooses to be way over his head because of Ember. You're going to have to be careful. To watch your back so that you don't lose your place."
I nodded. There was no way I could tell her that Paris was trying to reject me, and it was because I was so stubborn that I was even still in their lives.
"I promise to try very hard to get you out of this place. I genuinely miss your company, the house feels very lonely without you in it, to be honest."
"You just work on getting me out. I'll be with you every second of the day after that."
PARIS'S POV
Every call from Jackson made my heart rate speed up. I had even grown more interested in his appearances simply because he often provided me with necessary news. And well, he was the only man I could trust in this pack. Possibly the only person.
"so, I covered up your tracks in the hospital surveillance. Safe to say it was a tricky bit because the security guard simply would not leave his station." Jackson announced when he entered my office. If I wasn't out-tracking my enemies, I was glued to the papers on my desk. My life had simply become very small.
"wouldn't leave his spot? So he saw me through the cams?"
"Whether he did or not, he certainly can't prove that anymore," Jackson said, throwing his hands up with a shrug,
"Thanks," I said, and set my papers aside,
"There is something that bothers me though. Ember was at the hospital that day when I took Kate."
"ah, was she? What was wrong with her?"
"That's what I wanted to know. Her records were weird. The doctor made a comment about a 'wolf emergence'. Have you ever heard of the like?"
Jackson thought for a moment before slowly shaking his head, "it's freeing. But any Ideas? What was she in there for in the first place?"
"I guess she passed out sometime during that day. When I saw her with Jean, her color seemed okay. But the jean bloke kept holding on to her. But then again, he could have simply been holding on to her to feel her. Son of a gun." I spat angrily, and Jackson scratched the back of his head,
"What?" I asked, recognizing the look on his face. It meant there was something he had thought about, but didn't exactly settle well with him,
"Well, it's just that you did say that the man was her mate.
"I also said that she had rejected the man."
"but they are still spending time together. She no longer has other ties to any other person. It could be that they are giving each other a chance again. And that's what her wolfish emergence may pertain."
I drew my brows in confusion and discomfort, "she's passing out because her wolf is embracing the closeness of the mate that was bound to be rejected."
"We both know the grieving that comes with rejecting a mate. Sometimes, our bodies react in weird ways when we feel relief after a long period of suffering."
"she wasn't suffering. She had me." I said stubbornly, but Jackson simply made a face that made me shake my head,
"Whatever, mate. I don't know if that's what it's about for sure. But I'd like to find out."
"why though?"
"Because if her wolf is warming up to Jean, and she's ready to accept him again, then I might just be slowly turning into a finished man."
