Chapter 27

However, the rain picked up and I found myself huddling underneath the shelter, a nearby bus station offered, but even after waiting there for so long, a bus didn't come and the rain refused to stop. I loved the rain, I really did, but mostly when I wasn't outside and caught in it against my own will.
I bit my lower lip and looked around, and it was only then that I remembered that Paris and I owned a house in the area. He had gotten it, presented it to me on our second anniversary, and tagged it as our little getaway harbor. We hadn't put it to much use recently, and the reason was obvious, but it was still well-furnished.
I sighed and got up from the bench. Going to that house was the last thing I wanted to be doing, but it was the only choice I had left. It was close and it was warm, and in every good sense, it was mine.
The journey didn't take more than ten minutes by foot and I purred when I stripped off my wet clothes and stepped into a hot shower.
Obviously, Paris hadn't given negative orders about me, because the security guards and the maids were very welcome.
I sent a text to Axel telling him I wouldn't be home soon because of the rain, and he sent a text back telling me to take my time.
I did, because right after that I got a meal and dozed off right after.
But my sleep was short-lived. I was awakened by the sound of someone knocking at my door.
"Don't tell me one of these people told Paris I'm here," I muttered in frustration and walked toward the door, opening it without first trying to know who was there,
"Well, well." it was Queen Luna Lara, and she barged right in without invitation, Kate on her heels.
"See, Kate darling, I told you it was a fine house," she said casually, without acknowledging me and that got me really angry,
"what the hell are you doing here?" I asked, balling my hands in fists,
"Well, little rascal pup, I believe it is I who should be asking what you are doing in my son's house so freely. I believe he rejected you?"
I sneered at her and ground my teeth, "That's neither here nor there, Luna Lara. Both of you are trespassing."
"am I? I truly doubt that. This is Paris's house, and since Kate is his actual mate, I believe this house rightfully belongs to her. "Saying that, she turned to Kate and shook her head, "the girl always seems to forget her place," she said and pushed past me to go further into the house.
"I told Paris, from the very start, I told him, this girl is not your mate. She is only going to end up being an abysmal hell. Look at it now. Just look at Kate darling." she said, sounding truly troubled by the fact that Paris loved me and I rolled my eyes.
"You can't fight when it comes to matters of the heart sometimes," Kate said morosely and I truly wanted to throw up.
"Can both of you get the hell out of my house?" I interjected
"Your house? Your house?! You're out of your damn mind. This is Kate's house now." Lara said and I took two full steps toward her, never taking my eyes off her,
" you have a lot of nerve. It isn't enough that you made my life a living hell when I lived with you, but now you think it is okay, to simply walk in here, making demands, and barking mad." I shook my head vehemently, "You're wrong, ma'am. I'm done with you, and I'm sure as hell done with your pack, you will not disrespect me in my own home. So I'm going to ask you for the last time, take your beloved daughter-in-law, and get the hell out of my house." I ground out, my patience slowly ebbing away.
She looked at me in shock. I suppose she never saw the day I would talk back at her coming,
"How dare you? How dare you speak to me in that tone?"
"I'll speak to you in whatever tone I deem fit." I said and turned away from her, "In any case, Kat can't possibly own this house, because Paris got it for him and me. Regardless of that, he and I are getting divorced, which means I'm entitled to half of his possessions, which very, much include this house." I said and sat down on the couch. And I took great pleasure in looking at their bewildered faces,
"I knew it. I always knew that you were with Paris because of the things you longed to possess."
"you knew nothing. Absolutely nothing, otherwise you would know that well capable of living without the things I could get from the divorce. The fact I brought it up now is simply to shut you up since you're so hell-bent on embarrassing me and threatening to take that which isn't yours to take in the first place."
"isn't mine to take? You sound like the gold digger you actually are." Lara said,
"spiteful witch." I hissed,
"don't you talk to her that way?" Kate said angrily, "She hasn’t said anything that isn't true. All you've ever done is use Paris for gain. Even now, when he wants nothing to do with you, you still can't help yourself."
"Have you gone mad?" I asked in a voice that was way to calm my ears because it did feel like committing murder.
"shut up and listen-"
"no, you shut up and listen!" I said and rose, "I told you already that you're trespassing, and you are. You never gave me a moment's rest when all I wanted was to please you, now I don't give a damn. So get out! Just get out!" I yelled and she took an instinctive step back before her face contorted into a grimace,
"I will, after I've confirmed with Paris himself," she said and took out her phone.
She was going to call Paris, and I found it quite interesting.
"confirm away," I said and sat back on the couch.
"Ember says she owns a certain house on the east side of town," Lara said without preamble when the line connected, I suppose.
She listened for a moment and I watched her brows draw together,
"how can that be, she isn't even your Luna." whatever he said after made her face fall, but I tried not to look pleased about it.
The call ended soon after, and she sneered at me,
"Well?" I asked,
"you're still a gold-digger," she said and I sighed,
"this again," I said, feeling suddenly tired, and turned to my ringing phone to find Paris calling me. I hadn't spoken to him since that night after the party and had missed his earlier calls. But now he was calling, after the period that I needed to speak to him, and I had only anger at the sight of his name,
"What do you want?" I asked, unable to keep my anger out of my tone,
"what is going on there?"
"Oh not much, I'm just trying to get your mother and Luna to leave me well alone. Hey, tell me, if you were in such a rush to make Kate your Luna, why the hell didn’t you reply when I hit you up earlier?"
"uhm?"
"don't play dumb. "
"I'm not playing dumb. I didn't receive anything from you. I tried calling, but you didn't pick up."
"whatever. You all should really leave me alone."
"I have no idea why they are there. But I've asked my mother to leave you alone."
"good and goodbye," I said and hung up before he could say anymore,
"Heaven knows what enchantments you've put on the boy," Lara said when I set my phone aside, but I picked it up again to call security. I had had it with both of them.
"you're impossible," I said when I heard the knock on the door. I got up walked toward it and for the first time that day, saw someone I wanted to see,
"You said you had some trouble." the guard said,
"Those two," I said, gesturing toward Kate and Lara.
He didn't say anymore, he simply walked toward them and shrugged, "you can go without me having to touch you. But the thing is you have to go." he said calmly. But he really did not look like someone you wanted to mess with.
"You haven't seen the last of me."
"at least for now, I have," I said and smiled smugly as she turned away from me and the guard, Kate at her heels, and I was more than happy to close the door after the lot of them.
