Chapter 36 The Bullets

She wonders how calm Keith was when the bullet almost lodged itself into the back of his head.
'Why and how can he be so calm?'
He is a gang leader, and someone is trying to kill him!
Isn't he supposed to feel panic, angry, terrified, or threatened at all?
If he dies, then there's only one thing left.
Fear.
If what James told her was right, then she will not let Keith die. If he dies, it's the end of the deal. After that, she has to get out of the gang silently because that's how she got in.
She doesn't know if her life will be the same anymore. Plus, she has gotten a liking for the guys, the girls, and some of the members in Keith's gang.
Keith's mom is the brightest person that she ever know. She accepts Eric to be her husband, and she too knows about the gang. She is even a part of the gang before Keith took over his father's gang. Her smile and her happiness will be forever gone if he died.
If he died today, it would be her fault. It would always be her fault.
She would be the reason the gang got another leader who they didn't know at all.
Lexy and Brett. She wonders if they would still be together after that happens.
Tears started forming up in her eyes. This is why she doesn't want to have any feelings towards Keith. The pain will be unbearable. A small, lone tear glided down her cheek.
"The number is untraceable. Damn it! There must be some way to find out whose number is this." Kenzie's finger glided around the tracking equipment.
Vale slumped back on the couch as if a big heavy stone has been put on her shoulder.
No!
She would not let the gangs get hurt. If she has to get herself kill to save them, so be it.
Her family wouldn't take her back as their daughter if they knew who she had become anyway.
A killer.
A murderer.
She doesn't think that they would ever consider how many times she had been in a situation where she could get herself kill anytime just for them. To save their lives.
How can Vale be so cruel as to say she didn't know them to Keith who can get her full background in less than 5 minutes?
That's including who her family is and her friends since she came out of her mother's womb.
Up until now, she still hasn't figured out why her mom and dad suddenly felt so distant from her. Someone must have been brainwashing them.
They never yell at her or accused her of something she never does. If something came up, they would sit together and discussed it.
But, no.
Her parent didn't even let her explain on the phone. They must have been brainwashed by someone who hates her the most.
Is it Kayden?
Does he hate her for embarrassing him in front of everyone during Remy's party?
Is it her boss? Jeffery Jackson?
Vale knows he hates her guts for some unknown reason since she steps her foot on his building.
Is it one of the guys?
Or maybe Keith?
Why would they do that?
She heaved a long sigh before she sat up.
"I wish I could stay longer to find out the result but I have to go," she said.
Kenzie looks back at her and gives her a sympathetic smile.
"Okay. I would call you if I got something from this."
Vale nodded as she got up from her chair. Kenzie saw them out of her door.
"Thank you so much for helping me." she turns to Kenzie.
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it. Ah! Actually, I forgot to ask if Keith know about our meetings?"
Vale opened her mouth to answer but end up closing it back as her hands flew to scratch her neck.
"Uh, can you do me a favour?" she smiles sheepishly at her.
Kenzie's face went pale as she looks at Jake.
"What? Don't look at me! You're the one who forgot to ask." Jake raised his arms.
"Oh my god! If he knows this, I will be punished! What-" she started rambling about all the possible outcomes from this meeting.
"Hey! Hey! Calm down! I'm sure he'll be fine with it. I'm sure he'll be asking for information sooner or later. You could prepare it beforehand." Vale put her hands on her shoulder.
Kenzie calmed down after a minute and waved goodbye to them.
The drive back remained silent. But, Vale knows Jake has been loading his brain with thousands of questions.
"What the hell actually happen?"
