"Surprise secrets surprise." Vale shrugged her shoulder.

"What?" they looked at her with confusion.

"Nothing."

"Why, Jake?" Brett asked.

"Yeah, why him?" Keith glared at her.

"Problem?" she raised an eyebrow as they sat on the chair.

"Yeah, we're way hotter than him." they all said in unison.

"Pfft. Let's eat." Vale rolled her eyes playfully at them.

Dylan surprisingly offered to wash the dishes, so Vale walks back to her room and changed into her office suite, grab her bag and car keys.

She walks out of the mansion where Jake was waiting for her. He furrowed his eyebrows when he saw the car keys on her hands.

"I'm riding my own car, and you take yours," she explained to him before heading to her Mustang.

Soon after, she drove the car to Kayden's house. She once thought of driving this Mustang to the hill and push it off the cliff. But, she didn't want to cause an issue that might lead the other gang to her.

Someone might have seen her going in and out of the gang house in the daytime and get suspicious. Vale only went to the mansion at night before this. So, the probability of them seeing her is small.

That was up till now. Of course.

She might as well talk to Keith about this. She probably has to live in her own mansion-Mint Mansion.

Vale parked the car beside his gate after she arrives and left a note to tell him to get rid of her things at his house.

She walked out of the car and slide into Jake's passenger seat.

She knew it's risky for her to ride on a gang member's car, but all she needs to do is to be careful.

"Where are we going now?" he asked.

"My workplace." she leaned back on the passenger seat.

"What for?" he asked her, confused.

"I had to work, Jake," she said in a duh tone.

"But, what if Kayden-" he asked again.

"Jake, I don't care if he would find me there or not. We're over, so why bother searching for me?"

"I get it. Just... Promise me. You'll take care of yourself."

"Fine. Fine. I promise." she nodded obediently at him.

Fifteen minutes after, they arrive at the company she works for. She waved at Jake before heading to the main entrance.

She was about to walk in the elevator when she heard a familiar voice far behind her.

"Hey, Vale!"

Vale rolled her eyes as she walked towards the elevator, ignoring her. Nancy finally caught up with her when the elevator door was about to close as she panted.

"Good morning, Nane."

Nancy grinned at her the whole time while leaning at the elevator wall. Vale furrowed her eyebrows in confusion seeing her weird behaviour.

"Stop grinning at me!" she crossed her arms across her chest as she shivered slightly.

"Make me." Nancy daringly said.

Vale had her back on the surveillance camera. She grabbed onto her bag's tightly and hit the CCTV with her bag.

Before Nancy could react, Vale pulled out her gun, aiming straight towards Nancy's head.

Nancy's eyes went wide in horror. Her grin vanished as she raised her hand in surrender.

Vale rolled her eyes before putting her gun back inside her bag. She folded her arms across her chest.

"Now, tell me. What's with the grinning?" she asked.

"Duh...I feel proud of you. That's why."

The elevator door opened up, and they walk out.

"Valentina Rodriguez!"

Their boss voice echoed throughout the whole office room.

Vale gritted her teeth as she looked at Nancy who sneakily ran away before heading towards the boss office that was separated from the staff's office.

She knocked before heading in, "You wanted to see me, sir?" Vale asked in a sickly sweet tone as she mentally gags.

"Cut the crap! Tell me. Why didn't you come to work for these past two days? Huh?"

'Damn! Don't tell me Nancy forgot to inform him that I need to take a day off?'

Vale sighed heavily before faking a frown and looked down at the floor.

"I was sick." she lied.

Well, what else is she supposed to tell him? Tell him that she was mourning?

"Really?" he raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah."

"I heard that you broke up with your boyfriend?" he asked out of nowhere.

This old man already knows why she was absent, yet he still asked her why?

Vale truly wonders how her dad befriends someone like him.

Vale chewed on her cheek with annoyance.

She was supposed to work, not telling him about her life histories.

But, of course, he would ask that.

After all, Kayden is walking, living money, for them.

She nodded, picturing how the entire city will react at the news.

"Excuse me, sir? Can I go back to work now?" she shifted on her feet.

"Yeah, Sure." he nodded as she went back to her seat.

Pfft.

She had been working in human sociality company for two years. That's why she said how irony her life was.

She killed people and yet, at the same time, she was working to improve human society.

Guess what?

The boss asked her to stay late and stacked a bunch of file on her desk.

So now, she was the only one left inside the building.

Vale yawned and glanced at her watch.

8:35 p.m.

Seriously, who would work this late?

Oh, right. Her.

Damn it! Two more files to do!

Vale was thinking of taking the files home or leave them unfinished. But, knowing that she would have another extra work to do tomorrow made her cast the thoughts aside.

The clock hits 10:15 p.m. when she finished.

She was too tired but forced herself to stand up, grab her bag and phone before walking out of the building.

She called Jake. But, he's not picking up.

She dialled again but he never picks up.

Vale groaned.

She tried to call the others but no one is picking up their-goddamn-phone.

Great! Now, she has to walk home?

Vale tried to call Nancy but ended with the same answer as the rest.

"Seriously guys?!" she shouted before kicking the dustbin beside her.

Taxi is unavailable. Double sh-!

Suddenly, Vale felt a tap on her shoulder. She jumped away in reflex and turns around. She looks at the two strangers who were eyeing her from head to toe warily.
