Chapter 7

In front of him was the investigation report his assistant had just presented, the result still the same—nothing found.
Mira had vanished like a drop of water into the ocean, leaving no traceable evidence behind.
"Useless!"
He violently flung the report to the floor, his face ashen.
He lunged at the computer, reviewing the surveillance footage near the ruins over and over again, frantically searching.
Even as his eyes grew so sore they watered, he refused to miss any shadowy figure.
He couldn't accept that she had disappeared just like that.
Alive but no person seen, dead but no corpse found?
He absolutely refused to believe it!
Just then, the internal phone rang, and his assistant's voice was extremely cautious.
"Mr. Locke, the Sinclair family patriarch has sent a lawyer over who says he needs to see you."
Adrian's brows furrowed tightly, his heart full of irritation.
"Tell them to get lost!"
He felt extreme disgust toward the Sinclair family who had pushed Mira into this marriage yet showed no concern for her.
The assistant's voice grew even lower:
"But Mr. Locke, that lawyer says he has brought something that can prove whether your wife is alive or dead."
"Tell him to get up here immediately!"
Adrian roared at once.
Soon, a middle-aged lawyer with a serious expression walked in, his face devoid of any unnecessary emotion.
"Mr. former Locke, I hear you've been searching for our young lady like a mad dog these past few days?"
"What? You didn't actually think she was dead, did you?"
He casually sat down in the chair opposite, his manner composed.
"I never realized before how much you cared about her. Everyone in our circle knows you and that Hughes girl were madly in love with each other."
"Only our young miss, that fool, would believe you were her true love and play along with your business marriage charade."
"Tsk, she's probably the last person to know about your dirty deeds, isn't she?"
"Where is she?"
Adrian cut him off abruptly, his voice hoarse, filled with suppressed madness:
"Tell me!"
The lawyer took out documents from his briefcase, contempt showing in his eyes.
"Mr. Locke, want to know her whereabouts? Sure. Our old master said to exchange it for 30% of your Locke Group shares."
He leaned back in his chair, speaking unhurriedly:
"Considering how desperate you are, this is already a friendly price. Once the shares are transferred, I'll immediately tell you where our young miss is."
Adrian stared at him intensely, his eyes churning with towering rage.
After a few seconds of deadly silent confrontation, he ground his back teeth and squeezed out a single word through clenched teeth.
"Deal."
The lawyer, satisfied after confirming the share transfer agreement, finally spoke unhurriedly.
"Mr. Locke is indeed decisive! Rest assured, our young lady is alive and well, and living quite a splendid life."
He deliberately drew out his words, enjoying the sight of Adrian's face turning deathly pale.
"You know, our young lady is recognized as the number one beauty in our circle, and those willing to give everything for her could form a line from here all the way to New York. Among them, quite a few have the financial means to wrestle with you."
The lawyer stood up and strolled to the floor-to-ceiling window, his tone playful.
"Our young lady is treated like a precious jewel, cherished and treasured by others."
"So you really don't need to worry unnecessarily. Not only is she not dead, she's a thousand times happier than when she was with you."
"Oh, right."
As if just remembering the main purpose, he took out a bright red booklet from his bag and tossed it in front of Adrian.
"The main reason I came today was to deliver this divorce certificate to you on behalf of our young lady. Keep it safe."
"Congratulations, Mr. Locke, you are free now."
Adrian's pupils suddenly contracted.
He suddenly grabbed the divorce certificate, his knuckles turning white from excessive force.
"Impossible! How could she take the initiative..."
"Tsk."
The lawyer interrupted him, the mockery on his face growing more intense.
"I don't mean to underestimate you, Mr. Locke, but your confidence is ridiculously misplaced, isn't it?"
"Do you really think our young miss couldn't survive without you?"
He leaned forward, placing both hands on the edge of the desk, and sneered.
"Have you forgotten? That night when you abandoned her alone at the top of a snow mountain to fend for herself, all for your precious childhood sweetheart!"
"The first thing she did after leaving the hospital was to find our old master and firmly demand a divorce from you!"
"Moreover, you were the one who threw the signed divorce agreement in her face, humiliating her in every way."
"Weren't you quite eager to divorce her too? So why do you now look like you're about to die when you've gotten exactly what you wanted?"
Seeing Adrian's suddenly pale face, the lawyer straightened up and adjusted his tie.
"For the sake of that 30% stake, let me give you a piece of advice. Go live your life with that childhood sweetheart of yours, and stop fantasizing about our Miss Sinclair."
"Our Miss Sinclair is the kind of person who won't tolerate even a speck of sand in her eye. From the moment she learned of Vanessa's existence, you had already lost. Not to mention all those inhumane things you did to her."
"The fact that she didn't flay you alive is already her greatest mercy."
After speaking, he leisurely turned and left.
When he reached the door, as if remembering something, he added one more sentence.
"Former Mr. Locke, don't forget to transfer the billion-dollar compensation stated in the divorce agreement as soon as possible."
"I trust that with your character, you won't default on payment."
Adrian looked at the divorce certificate, feeling a sharp, twisting pain in his heart!
Just thinking that Mira might be nestled in another man's arms at this moment made him insanely jealous.
