Chapter 53

1004words
The next morning Anastasia woke up in bed wearing a very large shirt. As she raised herself up on her elbows, the sight of the sun seeking through the room delighted her eyes that had seen darkness for quite a while. She was only glad that she could still breathe and had not been ravaged by a monster the night before.

Thinking back, she could remember Marcus promising her how much he would love to kill her mate. Just thinking about it sent deadly chills to her bones, he was a heartless rogue. How could he even live with all these grudge and craving for revenge in his blood? If only there was a way she could change him for the better.

Standing up, Anastasia searched the whole room looking for him. Last night, he had slept in the living room, saying he would not disrespect her until they were bonded together by the moon goddess. The man had so much oath to fulfill. He was not even here. Nowhere to be found. When she looked through the window, only the peaceful unknown forest greeted her. The sun was rising and this was the perfect moment for her to escape this hell.

Soon as she put a step outside the door, a big shadow welcomed her with intimidation. "Where do you think you're going?"

"Uh.. I was.. looking for you."

"Come.. eat," he stated, throwing a dead rabbit on the table.

  "You hunted for our breakfast?"

"Yeah. I lived in the forest, remember?"

Looking at him, she found his sharpened knife covered with dripping blood. A few moments later he was already cooking while Anastasia sat down waiting for him to finish. She rubbed her hands together in front of the fire, trying to warm herself. A coat was suddenly put over her shoulders. When she looked beside her, Marcus was looking down at her with concern. She eagerly hugged the coat around her, sighing in relief.

Marcus proceeded to pour her the soup and put it on the table before her. Soon as Anastasia tasted it, she could not believe how delicious it was. For someone who seemed truly savage, he knew how to cook well. In no more than a few minutes, she had already finished the soup.

Marcus chuckled at her satisfied face. "You're really hungry, huh?"

"Well.." she shrugged, "you kept me here all night. What did you expect?"

"Sorry about.. last night. I've been aggressive but I meant what I said."

Anastasia was sure he was apologizing about kissing her aggressively and even almost ravaging her on the bed. But he wasn't at all sorry for telling her how he would like to kill her mate. What a terrifying thought. "I know what you meant. And I know there's nothing I can do or say that will change your mind."

He grinned evilly. "I'm glad you know that. I would not want you to waste your thoughts and effort to try to argue with me once again this peaceful morning." Leaning over the kitchen counter, he smiled down at her with so much pride. Then he looked at her empty plate in question. "Would you like more?"

Anastasia had enough. He acted so careless before and kept telling her how much he despised the Alpha but why was he acting as if she was not his hostage.. but a friend instead.

"Why do you care?" She snapped. When he gave her a look of confusion, she said, "Why do you care so much if I still want more? Why do you care if I'm cold? Why do you want me to feel good while being your hostage? Is this some sort of trick You're playing at?"

When he realized what she meant, he chuckled in defeat. "Well.. I don't think you realize it but.. what if I'm not as bad as you think? I know I tend to become really aggressive. I've learned to like violence, killing someone I despise brings more pleasure to me than a slut craving for my cock."

Anastasia's eyes widened at his careless words.

"But lately.. I've been craving for something else. A life of peace and serenity. Last night, your words moved me. That, I cannot deny. You truly are meant to be a Luna." Just as his eyes looked at her with a certain longing, he went on to say, "I want you to know.. you are the second woman I have ever adored in my entire life. And believe me.. I've lived too long to know many."

"Who's the first?" She asked with curiosity.

  "My mother."

The silence that followed afterwards was a bit too silent to her own liking. That must have been such a long time. Although it flattered her to think about it, she felt a bit of understanding for him.

"I know you are only a victim in my quest. Yet it is my pleasure to have met a unique being like you. You had nothing to do with my chaotic past so I am willing to be generous to you."

  "What do you mean?"

"If I ever.. succeed in fulfilling my revenge.. you'll be free to do as you please. I will not take you by force like I once did."

Anastasia could not believe it. Marcus.. the infamous rogue who they called monstrous and savage. The lover of violence was telling her he would let her go once his revenge was fulfilled? She knew.. words were just words until it was done otherwise. But if there was one honest thing she knew about him.. it was that he was a man of his word.

"I guess we'll see if you could even fulfill your revenge," she retorted with confidence, succeeding in hiding her surprise. Alpha Draco knew how to fight. To see them on a match, it would be the fight of the century that everyone would pay to watch. She would if she had money.

"Yes, dear Luna," he replied with certainty. "We'll see."
