Chapter 27

Anastasia watched the trees pass by as Draco drove them back to the mansion. She finally felt truly at peace now that she got to talk to her father. Knowing he was safe pulled a stick to her heart. From the corner of her eyes, she could feel Draco looking at her. He seemed quiet all of a sudden and she wanted to know what he was thinking.

"What are you thinking?" he finally said, breaking the silence between them.

"Nothing, I'm just glad to know Papa's alright." She looked at him then, with a smile. "I didn't know you both knew each other. I didn't even think he could hide something like this from me. I felt betrayed. My whole life was a lie."

"He did it to protect you, baby doll," he assured, as he held her hand. Anastasia glanced at him with sadness in her eyes. "When I first saw you, I knew you were different and I vowed to protect you from the mess I made. In my world, you'll be in danger. And I don't want you to be somewhere you didn't ask to be in. Do you understand where I'm coming from?"

Anastasia nodded her head in response. "I just wish my Papa could've told me the truth about my mother. I deserved to know."

"Of course, you do. But perhaps he was wrong to keep you innocent from everything. Raising a child on your own isn't as easy as you think."

She sighed, giving up. "You're right."

"You're in safe hands, baby doll. I promise that when things get better, you will see your father."

"Thank you." For a moment, she looked outside the window. "I've judged you wrong," she admitted, remembering all the times that she called him bad names and all those times she fought with him.

"It's alright. I understand it could get overwhelming sometimes. Besides, I dragged you into a world you don't know. I can't really blame you."

"I just hope we'll catch the guy who tried to kill me. Who is he anyway?"

"It's a long story. And one that isn't for tonight. I know you're tired." The car stopped all of a sudden. Anastasia looked outside and saw the mansion. She hadn't even noticed they were already here.

"Don't worry," Draco assured beside her. "Things will get better."

She gazed at his face with eyes full of expectations. "I hope so."

"Let's go. I'll prepare your bath."

With a nod, she stepped out of the truck and followed him to their bedroom. No doubt she was tired from all the information revealed to her but she wasn't physically tired at all. In fact, she felt the opposite.

Once they were in the bedroom, Draco went to the bathroom to prepare her warm bath. This time it was him taking care of it. Perhaps he wanted to show her that he cared. Even about the smallest things.

Anastasia sat at the seat near the window, as she removed her heels. She was just about to stand up when she noticed something. There was a set of papers and books on the table near the bookshelves. The room itself was big so she never had the chance to look at the smallest details before. Besides, she didn't want to interfere. She may be just an uneducated girl but she knew how to respect one's privacy.

At the top of the opened books, there was a written letter and at the bottom she saw to whom it belonged. It was almost unavoidable to see. Especially seeing such beautiful handwriting. She didn't mean to but the letters were clear and she read it in an instant. At the foot of the paper, a familiar name was written.

  DB

As in Draco Bourne? she wondered. She quickly took a random book from the shelves and opened the first supposedly blank page.

  Property of DB

Could it be him? Her secret admirer? The guy who sat at the darkest side of the restaurant she used to work at. The guy who always sent her expensive tips. The guy who helped her buy her father's medicine. The one who saved her father's life. And now, he was saving hers.

How come she hadn't figured this out yet? And here she was, at the bottom of all this mess.

A simple thank you wouldn't be enough to tell him how grateful she was. All this time, she thought he was evil, a man with a cold heart and a dark soul. But in reality, he was selfless and full of compassion. Perhaps she should stop judging someone based on what she was seeing.

There is more than meets the eye.

Anastasia stood up, heart set out to make things right. Finally, she was decided in what she wanted in this life. She could no longer hide it nor stop it. Every moment that passed by, she wanted it more and more.

And she was going to give it to him this time.

The door to the bathroom opened all of a sudden, brushing her thoughts away in a swift. He stood there, his hair a chaotic mess and his face still as handsome as he was before. This time, he was sweating though. Probably from the heat.

  It was now or never.

Anastasia walked towards him with a silky sway. Perhaps she felt so confident in herself for once. She could see his eyes watching her every move. She walked straight into the bathroom and looked at the prepared warm bath.

"Alpha Draco," she called with a sweet voice. When she turned to look at him, he was right where he stood, a skeptical expression written on his face.

Anastasia smiled. "Do you mind unzipping my dress?"
