Chapter 460 WINNER

I sat in bed all morning just staring at the figure who was engrossed in a few yet much paperwork. He looked through different files and papers all at once, signing and writing.

He's been doing this for hours now. Maybe our mansion would have been a better place to recover quickly cause I would be reading one of my favourite books by now or probably watching the beautiful garden not sit in bed all morning and watch him work.

Lance was not much of a talker, he didn't even care about my existence in the first place. He just turned his head from time to time to stare at me before going back to his work.

I frowned, I was bored. I've stared at everything in this room that I could tell where all the pieces of furniture were placed with my eyes closed. There was no TV, not even a tiny one. My phone had been taken away from me since I arrived here so I couldn't even listen to a good jam or watch celebrity gossip. I've never been this bored in my life.

A slight thud was heard on the door, "Come in." The door handle twisted open for a maid to step in. She pushed a trolley in filled with a few folded clothes and just stood by the corner waiting for permission to do her job.

Lance arranged the papers on the table one after another, placing them in a trunk filled with other papers and larger files. I wondered what was written in those papers that had got him hooked on them.

"Get Riff Raff quickly." He ordered for the maid to rush out of the room.

"Let's go little one it's time to leave." He said stepping into his closet and in less than 5mins he got out in a cordovan shirt and black trousers. That's the fastest I've seen anyone dress before.

Lance approached me with his tiger-like movement and my heartbeat followed the pace at which he moved, and only raised faster when he picked me up. He took me into the closet, his eyes scanning around his closet.

He placed me on a chair as he stepped in. In less than 30 seconds, Lance brought out a dress. "Take out your clothes." He said.

T... Take out my clothes? I gulped at my thoughts. He didn't seem like he was giving me room to protest but I tried.

"I... I can wear it on my own." I stuttered biting my cheek inwardly.

"Hurry up and wear them." He passed the dress to me before stepping out of the closet.

I stared down at the blue dress before carefully putting it on, tying my hair into a loosed bun before limping out of the closet.

"Put this in the car Riff Raff and make sure no one lays their hands on it," Lance ordered the small butler that staggered when he placed the trunk in his hands. The man looked like he could break in half.

He turned his gaze to me and my body tensed up. His eyes seized me from my legs up to my face before walking up to me. "You seem to be done dressing up." I nodded at his words avoiding his piercing grey eyes.

Lance picked me up again smoothly, like a weightless object.

"I... I can walk on my own now." I said with embarrassment staring at the maid who didn't once look at us, but I could tell she was aware of everything going on in the room. My legs were better now if not fully but he still wouldn't let me walk on my own.

"You mean the limping?" He asked as we stepped out of the room and into the hallway. I blushed at the astonished eyes of other maids on us even if they bowed the moment they saw us.

"Where are we going to?" I quickly asked to get my mind off the maids or people around. My toes curled from the intensity I felt when his hot breath brushed my skin now and then causing shivers down my spine. His intoxicating natural minty scent filled my nostrils and I inhaled it deeply.

"Back home." He responded briefly.

We sauntered through the grand stairs down to the lounge. His parents and sister were already standing there waiting for us.

"You're leaving already? I thought you would have dinner one last time with us before leaving." Mother said the moment we arrived in the lounge. Now she wasn't wearing any makeup or expensive jewellery, she looked less intimidating and more welcoming. She's the sweetest person I've ever met, almost as sweet as mama, although I didn't know where to place my parents now since they gave me out.

"I didn't even get to know my daughter-in-law the way I wanted." She said. "We still have a lot to talk about." She sighed.

"There's always a next time," Lance responded.

"Take good care of her Lance, I hope you had fun staying at least?" I could tell how sad she was in her tone. It was true, we didn't talk much or get to know each other since I was always stuck in the room with Lance cause of my injury.

"I had a lot of fun." I smiled for her to return it.

"It was disastrous," Lance responded as we headed outside the mansion.

Was it disastrous or was he trying to be rude? I wondered.

Apollo, the huge scary man standing next to the car packed at the entrance of the mansion smiled at us. "Good afternoon boss." He said carrying the large trunk away from the butler. I waved a goodbye to mother and she waved back at me sending kisses in the air.

"Make sure to come visit again my Penny." I smiled at her words nodding even.

Lance placed me in the car before turning around to sit next to me. I kept waving goodbye to mother till we left the mansion.

"Your mother is the sweetest."

"Stepmother."

"Stepmother," I repeated his words.

The drive back home was quiet. Lance was deeply rooted in his phone as he hasn't lifted his head. I, on the other hand, stared at the road, and the people moving around the city. Many people were seen walking on the road. Business buildings and a few local stores were being opened.

But what caught my eye was the food stand at a corner of the road that had got children trooping in. Some with their parents who were about to buy something for them, and others had to drag their parents to get it for them. Most of them cried when they were rejected.

I could recall doing this too. Each time I and mama go for grocery shopping on weekends while a kid. But she would shun me to hit me to stop nagging about these things. "You're no longer a little child Penny stop acting like one." She could say. I ended up crying countless times but after a few years passed I lost interest in those things. I smiled at my memory.

It wasn't long before we arrived back home. The butler and maids were all out to welcome us back into the mansion. They all had their forced smiles on, I could tell how terrified they all were behind their smiles. Why was everyone so terrified of Lance? Why did they all stay wary of him like he was some danger?

Yes, I know he is dangerous. I've always known he was a devil from his scary appearance, but he's been nothing but good to me even if he's warned me never to meddle in his affairs anymore.

Lance helped me out of the car as he carried me back into the mansion. He didn't respond to the maids or Blunt who welcomed us back in. He didn't seem like he was in a good mood.

I clutched onto his shirt, gripping it tightly out of nervousness as we got into the mansion. His eyes trailed my hands to his clothes, 'I'm sorry." I quickly removed my hands, staring at the mess I had created on his shirt.

"Wrap your arms around my shoulders instead." I gulped at his words and wrapped my stiffened hands around his neck, my heart raising faster than usual. I didn't want my body close to his, especially our faces being so close to each other. It was already embarrassing to be carried in this way before all of the workers at home.

We arrived before the grand stairs to arrive in the hallway leading to our bedrooms. "I... I can walk on my own now." I said the moment we arrived before my bedroom door.

Lance said nothing to me, he didn't even act like I said a thing. He placed his hands on the black box on the door for it to unlock.

Does he have his fingerprint on my door?

He took me into the room to place me on the bed.
