Chapter 12: Night of Reunion

At the charity gala, all eyes gravitated toward Zoe.

Michael couldn't tear his gaze away, eventually approaching her right in front of his visibly pregnant wife. "Ms. Taylor, you're absolutely captivating. Perhaps we should exchange numbers?"

Mia wedged herself into the conversation, one hand protectively on her swollen belly. "Darling, remember the doctor said I shouldn't stand too long."

Michael's face tightened with irritation. "Then go sit down."

Mia turned to Zoe with a venomous smile. "Lovely necklace, Ms. Taylor, though it pales compared to mine. This was my husband's first wife's—a priceless heirloom."

She proudly displayed Rachel's diamond necklace, her eyes gleaming with challenge.

Zoe swallowed her rage and smiled with deadly grace. "What a macabre sense of humor you have, Mrs. Davis. Flaunting a dead woman's jewelry—aren't you worried about tempting fate?"

Mia's smile faltered. "What exactly are you implying?"

"Nothing at all. Just thinking some people might be celebrating... prematurely," Zoe replied with quiet menace.

Throughout dinner, Mia noticed Michael's obsessive staring at Zoe. Fuming, she sauntered over to Jack, batting her eyelashes. "Mr. Thompson, my workaholic husband won't even accompany me to prenatal checkups. Perhaps you could offer some advice?"

Jack regarded her coolly. "Mrs. Davis, your husband's priorities aren't my concern. Though I must say, that necklace looks rather... wrong on you."

Mia's expression froze. "What... what exactly do you mean?"

Jack smiled thinly. "Precisely what I said."
