Chapter 7: Memory Fragments

200words
As days passed, fragments of memory began to surface like debris after a storm. She recalled her college struggles, her early career challenges, but everything about Michael Davis remained frustratingly hazy.

One day, with Jack out of the house, Rachel decided to hunt for answers. She slipped into his study and discovered a locked folder hidden in a secret drawer.

After jimmying it open with a hairpin, she gasped at the contents—wedding photos of her and Michael Davis, alongside extensive files on the Davis Group.

"Find what you're looking for?" Jack's unnervingly calm voice came from behind her.

"This... is this me?" She trembled, pointing at the photo. "You've known who I am this whole time?"

Jack approached slowly. "Yes, Rachel Williams. I recognized you the moment I pulled you from the water."

"Why keep it from me?" she demanded, anger flaring at this fresh betrayal.

"I needed to be sure you didn't remember that night." Jack's voice dropped low. "Michael Davis is my cousin. Fifteen years ago, he orchestrated my parents' deaths in an 'accidental' fire, then stole the Thompson Group—my birthright."

She backed away, horrified. "So you saved me for revenge? I'm just a weapon against Michael Davis?"
