In 1987, a mysterious accident at the Blackwood coal mine in West Virginia left twelve miners missing and the town haunted by unanswered questions. Years later, the crew of the adventure program Extreme Explorers, led by host Jake Morrison, ventures into the abandoned shafts to solve the mystery—and to put the local supernatural legends to the test with scientific methods. But the deeper they go, the less the expedition resembles a controlled investigation. Unexplained phenomena multiply; team members slowly fall under the sway of a nameless, malevolent force. Only Sarah senses that what they're seeing may be an illusion—and in mounting desperation, she fights to call for help.
