Chapter 110

I place my stuff on the bed and stand up before stretching my tight limbs.
I decide that I want a snack from the kitchen since I haven't eaten since we've arrived home.
I carefully step over Charlotte's piles of files and make my way towards the stairs. I quickly descend down the stair and towards the kitchen.
I stop outside the kitchen door as I hear voices inside.
I know that eavesdropping is bad but the voices sound eerily familiar.
"Just do it already!" Someone whisper shouts with an annoyed tone
"No" another person whisper shouts back
They sounded like Carolina and Charlotte.
"Why not?!" Carolina whispers with an impatient tone
"It's not the right time, we just got back together and I don't want to scare her away" Charlotte explains with a meaningful tone
Please tell me that she's talking about me.
If not not I'll beat her up.
Well, you know what I mean.
"No offense, but I'm pretty sure she wants you to propose to her too" Carolina says which causes my breathing to stop
Did she just say-?
Propose?!
I peek around the corner and see a navy blue jewelry box sitting on the middle of the counter.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
No.
I can't get married!
I'm only sixteen!
I haven't even graduated yet!
I'm basically still a child!
I don't listen to the rest of their conversation as I walk away from the door frame and slip on a random pair of converse.
I quietly open the door and slip out before closing it behind me.
The cold night air hits my bare arms which reminds me of the fact that I left her jacket upstairs.
I don't bother going back inside the house to get it as I continue my journey down the sidewalk.
I start to shiver from the twenty-two degree weather.
Goosebumps arise on my arms and my fingers start to tighten.
I feel my face redden from the cold air that's abusing it.
Yet all I can think of is Charlotte and Carolina's discussion.
I've been walking around Charlotte's neighborhood for six minutes and I think it's safe to say that I'm lost.
I'm also very, very cold.
I can't move my fingers and my body is shaking as I walk down the cement sidewalk.
I hear a car drive up beside me which causes me to freak out.
Oh no.
They slow down before stopping the car and hopping out.
Jesus Christ, I've never been a bad child.
Except for the time when I spilled my milk on Suzy Plunker in grade school.
But I swear it was an accident!
Anyway, just please let me live!
I'll change, I won't have sex ever again!
"What the hell, Aspen!" I hear Charlotte yell as she suddenly appears in front of me
I look at her in relief.
Thank goodness she's here.
Oh, and I didn't really mean it about the whole sex thing.
"I've been looking for you everywhere. Are you okay?" She asks as she walks up to me
"I-I-I-" I stutter out but don't get far since my lips are chapped and the pain I feel in my throat increases
"Shit, sorry" she says with wide eyes and takes her coat off. She carefully places the coat over my shoulders before helping me into the passenger seat.
The ride back to her house is awkward, mainly for me.
I don't know how to break it to her that I don't want to marry her.
Do I love her? Of course.
Am I happy with our relationship? Most definitely.
Am I ready to be married? Not at all.
