Chapter 73

Golden's POV

My eyes opened slowly. I glanced around to find Damon but he's not in here. I was able to let myself drifted to sleep. Nice.

I pulled myself up. It's ironic how my rest made me more exhausted. I heaved a deep sigh. I haven't eaten anything since we came back. I can feel my stomach growling in hunger already.

"I should probably head to the hall," I whispered to myself and hopped on the shower.

I decided to use cold water for my shower. I'm still amazed about the fact that I can actually control the temperature of the water. Thoughts were running on my mind as I let the water flow in my naked body.

I should be happy, right? We just got the clue. Damon and I can now proceed to the next step and that is to find the origin of that common seashell. We can literally find it anywhere. Receiving a stranger and rare looking objects is much easier than the commmon ones. Imagine searching for clues in a much larger space? Not a big fan.

It will only complicate thing and give the menace more time to get what he wants.

What do they want?

Do they really want something the stone on God Gaviel's bludgeon? Who would dare try to rob the palace in broad daylight? He must know some sort of magic. Something that a Wizardus can only do. But it's not Freeda. I know that it's not just her. There's more of them.

Wait.

What happened to her?

I haven't seen her around. Hmmm. I should probably go see her. That's a stupid idea, I know. But God Hlaford is not doing anything. He knew about Freeda's trick of copying his pet eagle but he didn't bother to confront her saying that he's trying to investigate.

But I can't just sit here and let her wander around and act like she belongs here. She's a spy. A spy from the weakest kingdon in Vortaxia. Wizarnia Kingdom has kept their cool for the longest time. I was told that they were't causing trouble in the last twenty years.

Silence is more terrifying.

I dried my hair using the magical tool that resembles butterflies using their wings to dry my hair. I decided to wear a dress for now. It reaches down below my knees. The soft white fabric is ornamented by embroideries and laces. Damon once told me that he likes seeing me wear white dress.

He said that it makes him think that I'm his bride.

A hint of longiness touched my heart. It has been four months already since I came here in Vortaxia. I love it in here but I can't deny the fact that I miss the human world. It's fun to think that there are no such things as dragons and magic in there but it's still filled with evil people who wants nothing but power.

I put my hair into a nice and beautiful braid. My lips curved into a smile as I insert the hair ornament I got as gift from Bubbles.

"Beautiful," I whispered to the thin air.

I didn't bother to bring any gears with me. I know that Freeda is not capable of hurting me inside the palace. The Gods and Goddesses will know immeditely and she will end up being imprisoned.

I closed the door shut. I walked confidently on the halls. I can see in the corner of my eyes how some of them look at me. God Hlaford didn't make a special announcement. They decided to keep it with us but news spread like fire not just in the human word but in Vortaxia too.

They knew already that we were able to gain Fiscio's trust and it never happened before. Not even to our ancestors. We were the first one to see her true form.

Fiscio's way of making me realize my fault is quite harsh but I needed it. I had to wake up and remember things.

I was about to turn left when I bumped into a hard wall. "Oww!" he groans. I snapped my hurt forehead in an instant. I thought it was a wall. He's hard as rock.

"Oh? It's you!" he chirped. He knows me? My head is still aching from what happened. I lifted my head to look at him. My lips parted when I finally saw his face. It's Steve. What a small world.

"Hey! I haven't been able to say sorry on what happened." He smiled sheepishly. "You were really cool on the Batailen. I didn't know you have a beast inside of you. Hahaha!" he joked. I forced a smile. He is Freeda's parsen.

I checked his back to try find Freeda but she's not around.

They're parsens? But that is impossible. Steve might know something. I look directly in his eyes. Those stormy gray eyes are staring at me innocently like they did nothing wrong. I wonder if his actions and words are true. Maybe this is all an act?

"Golden? Are you still mad?" he asked. My silence wiped the huge smile on his face. I immediately shake my head to say no.

"Of course not! It's just that, I haven't seen you in a while," I answered. His face brightens.

Steve is hard to read. I can't really tell if he's just acting right now. Is it possible to get fooled by your own parsen? I heard that there's some sort of connection that will tell you if you have the right girl. It's impossible that he's been sleeping in a room with her without noticing anything peculiar.

No one can be that naive.

"Where were you heading?" he asked.

"I haven't eaten anything since we came back. I was planning of going to the dining hall," I responded. He looked down the hall and back to me.

"Should I accompany you?"

My eyes grew big.

"Huh?"

He scratches his temple sheepishly and open his mouth to speak.

"I mean the dining hall is kind of empty right now and..." He checks my back. "I can't really see your parsen tailing you around. Are you alone?" he asked. My brows arched.

"Oh yeah. He's quite busy," I answered. His smile widen. "Aren't you going somewhere?" He scratches his neck. Why is he so itchy?

"Oh I was just wandering around. I have nowhere to go to be honest. I was just killing time." He smiles. I stare at him for a few seconds before nodding my head as an approval.

Fine. I'm about to throw you tons of question too anyway.

We walked down the halls like normal Chosens. He did the talking. I was just listening to him. I would give him the hotseat once we arrived in the dining hall already. I can't let anyone hear what I'm about to ask him.

I'm still not sure if I could trust him but this is a one time opportunity. I noticed a lot of complicated things about him and his stories as we make our way to the hall. This is the only perfect time to ask him that.

*****

We arrived there shortly. He helped me find myself a seat. The golden table for two from my dream suddenly pops in my mind. What a strange dream.

We sat in front of each other like normal Vortans. I can't deny the fact that his presence doesn't really make feel like I'm in danger. I wouldn't have see him as a felon if it weren't for his parsen, Freeda. Interrogating her directly is not really a good idea.

Who in their right mind will confess to their crimes especially the one's like Freeda who has a higher person above her.

"You were wandering around you said," I started. He stopped sipping his juice and look at me.

"Yeah. I was bored."

"Why? Where's Freeda?" I asked. He pouted his lips.

"She's always leaving. It's annoying actually," he blurted. He looks at me and smiled shortly. "You see... I'm a very clingy and talkative person and having her as my parsen who looks at me with disgust is just heartbreaking. I only get to see her when she's sleeping." He crossed his arms and looked away like a huffing kid.

I chuckled.

"Why don't you speak to her?" I asked. He looks at me.

"Well. Yeah. I'm just kind of..." he says and looked away.

"What?" I asked.

"I'm scared of her."
